Shannon McNally AND Jan Bell of The Maybelles
Tonight on Twisted South Radio are 2 of our favorite female musician/singer/songwriters. ShannonMcNally AND Jan Bell of The Maybelles.
At Shannon McNally’s musical core is mystery. Part of that mystery is conceptual as her writing reflects a hybrid spiritual center that taps into Native American beliefs with a hippie component and feet in the urban and rural worlds. That doesn’t mean her lyrics are impenetrable or psychobabble – far from it. They’re direct and familiar as she works with rock ‘n’ roll tropes and language, or, as in the case of “Thunderhead,” they’re startlingly concrete as she talks about giving birth to her daughter. But, as her solo show last night at Chickie Wah Wah demonstrated, her lines draw connections between the natural world, the spirit world, the physical world and the rock ‘n’ roll world in ways you don’t see coming.
Jan Bell-'Dream of the Miner's Child' is dedicated to my Grandad. The album has many special guests, including my band The Maybelles. I'm often asked 'What's an English girl doing in New York City playing country music?' I've set out to answer that question and tie together my Yorkshire roots, with the folk music and arts community I'm part of in America for the last twenty years. There are songs by emerging and established American and British songwriters; a couple of traditional folk songs; and a number of my own.

The Blessed Life
"Women of God" If you are stuggling with your call, listen and be encourage to go forward in God.
Since it is common knowledge that women make up more than one-half of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is important to understand their God-ordained role within the body. In most churches and ministries, women are viewed as valuable workers, as they often do the majority of the overall ministry.
Yet not all agree on women’s roles. Women are often restricted from certain areas of ministry within the church that have to do with speaking and leadership. Some churches allow for female pastors; many do not. Some allow for women to teach while others do not. Some restrict women from speaking at all during church services.
Well let's talk about it. I'm here to encourage you women to let God have it's way in your life, whatever office you called into.

Inside the Southern Roots Kitchen with Kimberlee Stevenson
Join us in the Southern Roots Kitchen today with food blogger Kimberlee Stevenson.
Kimberlee S Stevenson is the owner of Southern Roots Kitchen; born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts where her love for being in the kitchen began at an early age. While watching her mother, aunts, uncles, grandparents and great-grandmother cook in the kitchen Kimberlee began to learn her way around the kitchen.
Attending the Springfield Girls Club Family Center for their after school program gave her the chance to learn even more about cooking and baking. As a member of the Busy Bees Cooking Club under the direction of the head cook Mary ‘Mama Morgan’ Kimberlee learned different kitchen essentials and baked her first batch of Peanut Butter cookies. Every chance she got Kimberlee spent time in the kitchen anxious to learn all that she could.
As years passed by Kimberlee continued to keep cooking close to her heart, baking cakes, pies and cookies for close family and friends. Stepping out on faith and with the support from family and friends, Kimberlee decided to turn her passion and love for cooking into her business, Southern Roots Kitchen.

Ella Fitzgerald on Jan Eberles' Swing Museum then Bing ...
Every Friday evening at 9pm est. Jan Eberle's Swing Museum.
The Swing Museum with Jan Eberle celebrates the very best of Big Band, Standards and Jazz. As a "second generation-er" and performer (daughter of big band singing balladeer, Ray Eberle and niece of baritone crooner, Bob Eberly), I've been blessed with a unique understanding and incredible passion for this Era. One of the things I enjoy most about this show is bringing snippets of history and rare tidbits about the artists and music... some personal.
Tonight Bing Crosby welcomes Ella Fitzgerald and The Mills Brothers from 11/09/49
