Join us as we welcome Stephanie Calahan of Calahan Solutions. Stephanie will be discussing Visibility Blocks and how they can deter marketing efforts with your business - without you knowing about it. Everyone knows that they need to get their message out in order for their ideal clients to find them and work with them. Still, many find themselves knowing what needs to be done and still not doing it. Visibility Blocks are areas of your life or business where you consciously or unconsciously limit your ability to be seen. Have a question for our guest? Feel free to call in, join us in the chatroom or tweet your questions to @kerryheaps. Hope you can tune in!

We are joined by Michael Thal retired from his teaching job when he was 51 years old due to a severe hearing loss. Rather than give up on life, he pursued a new career as a writer. Since 2001 he’s penned 3 published novels with a new one coming out this fall. He’s also written over 80 published articles for print magazines like Highlights for Children, San Diego Family Magazine, and Writer's Digest, to name a few.
Michael was inspired to write Goodbye Tchaikovsky due to a severe hearing loss at the age of 44. He left his job as a tenured sixth grade teacher seven years later because he couldn’t understand his students. Michael wrote Goodbye Tchaikovsky wondering what it would have been like if his hearing dropped out as a teen.
Goodbye Tchaikovsky is not just a novel about main character, David Rothman’s experience of transitioning between a hearing and deaf world. It is an emotional autobiography of hearing loss. Deafness is an unseen disability. We know a man is blind by the cane he uses to guide his walk. Her wheelchair easily identifies a disabled woman with Cerebral Palsy. Deaf people have to continuously remind others to talk slow so deaf people have a chance to understand their speech. Deaf are alone in crowds. They are isolated at parties. David’s story brings this conundrum alive to its readers.
Approximately (36 million) American adults report some degree of hearing loss. About 2-3 out of every 1,000 children born in the U S are born deaf or hard-of-hearing. The National Institute on Health estimates that approximately 15 percent (26 million) of Americans between the ages of 20 and 69 have high frequency hearing loss due to exposure to loud sounds or noise at work or in leisure activities. There are 4,000 new cases of sudden deafness occur each year in the United States. Yet deafness is the only disabilty where people get mad at the deaf

If you are preparing to function as the health/medical person in your family or mutual support group, caring for burns must be part of your training. Burns are wounds. And while first degree burns (usually sunburns) can be miserable, second degree and third degree burns are serious wounds that require skilled attention ASAP. What do you do if skilled care is days away, or worse… not coming at all?
When a burn is severe, things can turn bad very quickly. Complications can include infection, sepsis, dehydration, or even a life-threatening, sudden drop in blood pressure. By blending some advanced first aid with easy-to-make herbal medicines, you will know how to respond in a safe and appropriate manner.

Almost all teens get acne. It happens when an oily substance called sebum clogs pores.
Pimples usually pop up on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Acne isn't a serious health risk, though severe acne can cause permanent scars. Acne can also damage self-esteem.
It is not clear why some people are more prone to acne than others. The exact cause of acne is not known, but hormones called androgens can play a role. Androgens increase in both boys and girls during puberty. Androgens make the skin's oil glands get larger and make more sebum. Androgens also can increase because of hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills.
Genetics may also matter. If your parents had acne, you may have inherited that tendency.
Some medications (for example, epilepsy medication, prednisone, androgens taken as medicine, and lithium) can cause acne.
Cosmetics that have a greasy consistency may also clog pores. Water-based products are less likely to cause acne than oil-based makeup.
Other things that can make acne worse include:
Friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin; harsh scrubbing
Picking or squeezing blemishes
Pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars
Changing hormone levels in adolescent girls and adult women two to seven days before the start of the menstrual period
Despite the severe impact of the Great Recession, Blacks’ economic clout continues to energize the U.S. consumer market. The Selig Center estimates that the nation’s Black buying power will continue its dramatic rise — $316 billion in 1990 to $600 billion in 2000, to $947 billion in 2010–to $1,038 billion in 2012, and a projected $1,307 billion in 2017.
