Kathleen Elle: New Jersey Teen, "2013 Seventeen Magazine and Secret Deodorant's Mean Stinks Contest" for her anti-bullying original song “Don’t Let Them In,” National Young Arts Foundation winner, featured in The Cyberbullying Research Foundation, and a guest speaker for anti-bullying advocacy at TedX.
“I wrote this song because I felt that most bullying prevention campaigns I witnessed at school were solely focused on getting the bullies to stop bullying. I thought there needed to be a message directly to victims to not let bullies get to them, because bullies are often empowered by the reaction they get from the victim.”
“I have found that music is the most powerful way to convey a message. Music has the incredible ability to move people. I know this to be true because I have received messages from around the world from victims who have told me they’ve listened to my song over and over to give them the strength to face their bullies. “
“I want my song to empower victims to wake up every day and have the courage to face anyone who makes fun of them for who they are. Victims should never change who they are for bullies. If they don’t let them in, bullies will never win.”

New Thought teaches that a change in conciousness can change the world. But what exactly is conciousness, and how does it bring these changes from thought into reality?
The mystery of consciousness--whether or not the quality of awareness arises from the material brain or is a non-material "spark" separate from, but acting in cooperation with the brain--has been investigated by every branch of human inquiry. Yet we're no closer to a difinitive answer today than we were three thousand years ago.
This episode begins a series of discussions concerning consciousness. We'll look at Buddhist ideas, quantum models of consciousness, the materialist or functionalist model, and much more.

We will also hear about from the experiences of her students.
The Kings raised their second Stanley Cup banner in three seasons as the 2014-15 NHL campaign offically kicked off.....without a one-sided beatdown in the banner game. Again. Feel bad for us, other NHL fanbases! To discuss the banner and the first three games of the Kings' season, I'll be joined by our managing editor Eric and, making his first appearence, Ryan Dunn (@NotDeadRyanDunn), Kings blogger from Battle of California! We'll also discuss the Pacific Division predictions roundtable that went up just before the season started, as Dunn was a part of that ~esteemed panel~ and his picks differed quite a bit from the consensus.

Living in the projects most of all my childhood life, made me appreciate life even more today. I was raised in Newark, NJ in three different projects, up to the age of seventeen. I would love to take you on my journey, from a child living in the projects to the woman that I have become. Here’s my story, reminiscing and growing up in the projects.

20 floors and concrete walls, Manhattanville Projects is the place that I called my home for several years. Living in the projects was fun, challenging and definitely a learning experience. To the outside world we lived in the ghetto, the slums the hood, but I called it my home. Take a look into my life growing up as a young girl from the project into a woman, mother, wife and author that is a product of the projects I grew up in. The projects made me who I am today.
In the last week, three more black men were shot by police. Phillip White was handcuffed, beaten, and mauled by a police dog. Seventeen year old Justus Howell was shot twice in the back. Sheriffs say unarmed, non-violent Eric Harris was shot by "accident". Ferguson, MO voters go to the polls today. In Cleveland, a police officer is on trial for killing two unarmed motorists. A plot by prison guards, who are members of the Ku Klux Klan, to murder black inmates was uncovered in Florida. Some Native American tribes lay down the law against gay marriage. By popular demand, radio host Maurice Appling is back to help make sense of the headlines.
