Catch Your Spirit with the Energy of Seva
The idea of selfless service (seva also sewa) is an important concept in most yogic traditions. Because Spirit is perceived as having a relationship with others, as well as oneself, serving other people is considered an essential devotional practice of indirectly serving Spirit. Seva is all about service to make life easier for others.

Many years ago I was introduced to the wonders of healthy eating and living by my God sister Vernez Kittrell . I attempted to totally venture into the waters of healthiness with her but was stopped many times for a host of reasons: too much information, not enough information, misinformation, and the list goes on.
My God sister embraced the concept more vigorously but also struggled to stay abreast of the ever changing literature and approaches. Sadly, Vernez lost her battle with cancer and passed away.
The most important lesson I learned from my journey with her is to have balance in my life, live to the fullest and strive to live as healthy as possible.
Seva Life was created as a tool to help you embrace a healthier way of being without so many of the frustrations often encountered. I received my certification in health coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and now focus on the whole health approach to achieving long lasting health changes.
I believe that too much emphasis is being placed on medications and not enough time on identifying the root causes of many of our health issues. Food and environment are primary factors that have really compromised our body’s ability to function - so we feel tired and gain weight.
I am committed to helping my clients realize their long-term dreams through health eating and living.

I have travelled the world providing much needed health care to underserved populations and realized that in the midst of all of the abundance in my own country people were struggling to be healthy. As a practicing dentist for over 25 years, I know how hard it is to navigate our very fragmented health system. My passion to help others transform their lives inspired me to receive my health coaching certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I am now approaching completion of certification from the Whole Health Institute.
My inspiration is my God Sister Vernez Kitrell. She embraced a nurturing, restorative and supportive approach to her achieving wellness in her life. After being diagnosed with cancer, she struggled to find the holistic care that she desired .Sadly; she lost her battle with cancer and passed away. The most important lesson I learned from my journey with her is to have balance in my life, live to the fullest and strive to live as healthy as possible. My journey with her inspired me to make the healthy living experience fun and empowering.
Seva Life was created to people embrace a healthier way of being without so many of the frustrations and expense often encountered. I have seen my dreams manifest themselves and owe it in part to embracing healthy living principles and striving to main balance and harmony mind body and spirit.
Wavy Gravy, who's reached official geezerhood, is more active and more effective in the world then he was decades ago. Back then, when still known as Hugh Romney, he stood on the stage of the original Woodstock concert and announced...."What we have in mind is breakfast in bed for 400,000!" He was at Woodstock as a member of an entertainment/activist commune known as the Hog Farm. Today, the Hog Farm still exists, collectively owning and operating the 700-acre Black Oak Ranch and hosting the annual Pig-Nic. And Wavy lives a third of the year in a Berkeley Hog Farm urban outpost, a big communal house he refers to as "hippie Hyannisport" But Mr. Gravy has expanded his activities over the past two-and-a-half decades to include co-directorship (with his wife, Jahanara) of Camp Winnarainbow, a performing arts program for children which takes over the Hog Farm for 10 weeks every summer, and the organization of all-star rock concerts to raise money for a variety of environmental, progressive, political, and charitable causes, most notably Seva, a foundation he cofounded in 1978, initially to combat preventable and curable blindness in the Third World. On May 17, Mr. Gravy will host a concert benefitting Seva to coincide with his 79th birthday.
He may be best known to millions as a cosmic cut-up and the inspiration for a Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor, but it is because of his good work on behalf of the planet and its least fortunate residents that Wavy Gravy has achieved his own brand of sainthood. His friend and satirist, Paul Krassner, has called him "the illegitimate son of Harpo Marx and Mother Teresa." Wavy says, "Some people tell me I'm a saint, I tell them I'm Saint Misbehavin'."

Seva is a franchise concept that specializes in the art of brow shaping, facial hair removal and waxing. Their signature offering is eyebrow threading – a relatively up-and-coming concept that more and more people are seeming to utilize for its various benefits. Here are some of the most unique aspects of this franchise concept:
Seva grows within retail stores, and has established an exclusive partnership with Walmart to begin with. There is also opportunity to grow in other retail stores such as Walgreens, Sephora and Ulta. By using a growth model of a store within a store, the Seva opportunity guarantees entrepreneurs foot traffic in the thousands per week. Seva doesn’t utilize traditional marketing tactics to sell its product, making start-up and success very easy for entrepreneurs. One of the only marketing tactics Seva utilizes is handing out coupons in front of the store. Seva utilizes a technological strategy to ensure success for each Seva salon. Seva’s proprietary iPad-based POS technology is installed in every location to enable its franchisees to easily run and monitor their stores in real time from anywhere in the world via any computer, web-enabled phone, or iPad. Seva has designed a complete turnkey “Salon-in-a-Box” delivery system which handles all aspects of the design, construction, delivery, and coordination of build out of every new Seva salon. Entrepreneurs do not need to know a thing about eyebrow threading, waxing or beauty to be successful with a Seva concept. This is a concept that can easily be run by an absentee owner. We are meeting with Vas Maniatis, founder of Seva.
In part two we are meeting with tha author of Franchise Times Guide to Selecting, Buying and Owning a Franchise Julie Bennett from our Great Quotes in Franchising podcast.

Sridhar Silberfein joins Sister Jenna on the America Meditating Radio Show to discuss Bhakti Fest - known for hosting the largest line up of kirtan, master yoga instructors, and spiritual teachers.
Sridhar, the founder of Bhakti Fest, has been on his spiritual journey for many years. He has studied hatha yoga with the Indian master, Swami Satchidananda, taught yoga at the revered Integral Yoga Institute and opened socially conscious businesses such as "The Food Chakra," one of the first Natural foods stores in the U.S. and a Natural Cosmetic Company. He also produced the docudrama, "River of Love," on the life of Amma, which raised money for her many charitable projects and co-founded the Triloka recording label with Krishna Das and Paul Sloman and helped to launch the careers of many world music and kirtan artists including Krishna Das, Jai Uttal and Bhagavan Das.
In 2009, exactly 40 years after an auspicious invocation at Woodstock, Sridhar’s lifelong dream was realized. He gathered thousands together to chant the names of the Divine at Bhakti Fest in Joshua Tree, California. Known as "The Spiritual Woodstock of the Millennium," Bhakti Fest has grown to three festivals yearly, with pre and post festival concerts, events and fundraisers nationally.
