In this weeks show we are examing how to make your senior cat comfortable and have the best quality life possible. Our guests include Tina Modugno who is caring for two senior cats, cat behaviorist Marilyn Krieger, and Dr Ruth MacPete. Cats do not often show flagrant signs of pain or illness but there are signs you can look for. Some diseases and other health problems develop in cats at a late age and you should be prepared to know how to deal with them. Like humans, it is just part of aging. Appetite, diet, physical activity and brain function all change, and we want out kitties to be able to enjoy life and be a part of our lives for as long as possible,

The largest and fastest-growing part of our population is Senior Women. There IS no role-model for women sixty and older, because they are living their “senior years” differently than the senior women before them. Today’s senior women live longer, are healthier, better educated, more involved in the world, and more active than the women who preceded them. Barbara Fleisher and Thelma Reese have gathered stories from women who are living in new ways, offering others the opportunity to see “how it’s done” in these new times.
It’s shocking to me, at age 72, to have someone refer to me and people my age as “old” or “elderly.” Two months ago I was zip-lining through the jungles of Belize and swimming with a jaguar in Honduras. This week I was riding a Segway through California wine country. If we’d had snow this year, you would have found me on the downhill slopes. We don’t think of ourselves as “old.” We certainly do not behave the way our mothers and their mothers behaved at 72 (if, indeed, they made it to that age). So how do we figure out the best ways to conduct our lives? Find out this Thursday. Click here to visit Barbara and Thelma's website.

Today our topic is brought to our audience by our Co-Creator Marquel Green
The show is about Senior Cut Day or Senior Skip Day
The issue: One day of the year that Seniors skip High School!
Senior skip day also called senior ditch day or senior cut day is a tradition in many American and Canadian High Schools where the majority of Seniors skip class
around May 8 often to spend the day at an amusement park or resort.
The most frequently chosen day is either the day before prom or the following Monday.
Other days popular for seniors to ditch include the day after Halloween the day before election day, the day after the Super Bowl,
Cinco de Mayo, April 20, and the day before Spring Break.
Prevention by Schools
Some schools have taken actions to prevent students from skipping school on Ditch Day,
Other schools have embraced the trend by offering some kind of school sponsored class trip to an amusement park or other fun activity.
Asbury Park H.S. a Neighboring School has also participated in the Senior Trend.
I graduated in 1992, I to took part in the Senior Cut Day.

Barbara and James explore the question of just who was Shakespeare.
On Tuesday night July 28th at 8 pm est James Luse and I will be doing a blog talk radio show on the question "Who the heck was Shakespeare" . There are many opinions on this from one very talented man who wished to be anonymous to a group or perhaps several or even the work of many. The bulk and scope of his work and the fact that there are no hand written manuscripts also not to mention that the Stratford man's parents and children were all illiterate does seem to beg the question. Call in and give your opinion or just listen to the facts and questions and make up your own mind.
Persons aged 65 and older are the fastest growing part of the population, and many families confront sometimes difficult decisions about care-giving, housing, health care, estate planning, and end of life planning for aging parents and other family members. Bob Rhudy, president of Senior Mediation and Decision-Making, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland, discusses the types of services that senior (or “elder”) mediators provide to help families manage and resolve conflict in these matters.
Robert J. Rhudy is in private practice as a lawyer, mediator, facilitator and consultant, and has been president of Senior Mediation and Decision-Making, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland since 2007. He is a past chair of the Association for Conflict Resolution's Elder Mediation Section (2008-2010). Bob developed and directed the Maryland Senior Mediation Project during 2005-2009 and created and directed the Maryland Court of Special Appeals Office of Mediation during 2009-2012. He has provided senior mediation training and consulting around the United States and Canada.
