We are taking the weekend before Christmas off to enjoy with family. We hope everyone has a great and safe holiday. Enjoy the Best of Show.
We will be talking with Mr. Dave Duffy
Dave Duffy is the founder, publisher, and editor of Backwoods Home Magazine.
He built his own home in a remote area of the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon while launching the magazine, and that served as BHM's first office. Since the home was 10 miles from the nearest electric utility pole, Duffy installed a photovoltaic system to produce sun-generated electricity to run the computers and printers to publish the magazine.
Born in Boston, Duffy spent his first 29 years there, where he worked as a journalist for several daily newspapers. He then moved to Nevada and California, working as a journalist for newspapers and later as a writer and editor for the Department of Defense.
Unhappy with working for others and living near cities, he spent several years of vacations and long weekends building his hideaway in southern Oregon. He eventually fled the rat race for the woods. In 1989, he started Backwoods Home Magazine to help others do the same.

EXCESSIVE (compulsive) SELF RELIANCE!
As an EX-CONTROL (con-swindle / troll-clumsy demon) FREAK; I suffered from Excessive Self Reliance Disorder! In an attempt to control everyone and everything around me; I became obsessed with being totally self-reliant. I developed a strong-will, drive and a can-do attitude. I believed in MY OWN WILL POWER and my drive to make anything happen that I wanted. I closed out people, refused help and denied support, assistance and comfort, that I needed. I learned how to live on a desert, in isolation and I created world with my word and my will in which all I needed to get by was ME; MYSELF AND I!

Jen Mendez is a wife, mother, permaculture enthusiast and student, lifelong learner, urban homesteader, and professionally trained, successful educator gone rogue. Her experiences living and working around the world as an active duty military member led to an understanding of the need for and the impact of education on the future of our world.
After her service, she completed a Masters in International Education with a focus on early childhood and elementary education and has been an educator ever since. Between her time as a classroom teacher and now as a homeschooling parent, she has fused her passion for educating and her enthusiasm for permaculture into an ethical, scientific design process to create a comprehensive, project-based inquiry education that empowers in learning and life.
She joins us today to discuss age appropriate home based education to teach children preparedness and self reliance without unnecessarily causing a climate of fear in their lives.

Survivor Jane will be the featured guest on the next episode of Common Sense Prepping on the Prepper Broadcasting Network. The female preparedness phenom is the author of the viral Twitter hashtag – Preppertalk. She is currently involved with a special NatGeo project related to the new season of Doomsday Preppers, and is finishing work on her first book. Survivor Jane was just your typical career woman going about her daily life, until everything about her entire life perspective was altered during an attempted robbery. The old saying “the straw that broke the camel’s back” may be a cliché, but it accurately describes the scenario that prompted Jane to begin focusing on a more self-reliant existence.

“To be great is to be misunderstood.” Ralph Waldo Emmerson
"Ne te quaesiveris extra."
"Man is his own star; and the soul that can Render an honest and a perfect man, Commands all light, all influence, all fate; Nothing to him falls early or too late. Our acts our angels are, or good or ill, Our fatal shadows that walk by us still." Epilogue to Beaumont and Fletcher's Honest Man's Fortune
Most of us know Ralph Waldo Emersons Essay “Self Reliance.”
So what is self reliance? Self Reliance is relying on one's own capabilities, judgment, or resources; and independence.
With all the past events in the news, where are the young people headed in this nation? Who is really paying attention and who really cares about our young people?
This weeks The New Jackie Blue Show will show you and the young people in our nation: The Art OF Self Reliance.
So, find some paper and pencil around the house or go to the craft store such as Michaels ( ask someone if you don’t have the money, tell the person what you are doing) or just tell them Jackie Blue sent you from Blog Talk Radio and purchase some paper, number 2 or HB pencil, and let’s begin The Art Of Self Reliance. ….Humm I wonder what Triple “T’s, Liz from Charlotte, or The Guy from Rock Hill, Art of Self Reliance is?

Can you choose to be self-reliant? Robin Marvel says yes, and your choices determine your level of success and achievement.
Robin Marvel is an author and speaker in the field of self development. Despite a childhood filled with abuse, homelessness and teen pregnancy Robin has overcome many challenges to make her life one of purpose, and she has devoted her life to show others how to do the same. Using her story, books and workshops as tools she is inspiring others to break cycles and choose to live the life they desire.
She learned at a very young age that our choices determine the successes that we achieve in our lives. You can not live in a state of blame in the present for the lifestyle you survived as a child. You have the opportunity to remove yourself from a victim to a victor and into the life you desire.
Robin has used the unfortunate circumstances she lived as a child and turned them into a way to encourage others to live a life of confidence and strength. Many people are faced with the same circumstances and are not sure about who they are. Her passion lies in reaching out to those in need and encouraging them to heal from the inside out to create a strong, confident, empowered person that will change the world.
Her childhood was peppered with physical, drug, emotional and mental abuse. She survived countless nights of watching my mom physically abused, parental kidnappings, homelessness and drug abuse as far back as I can remember. These experiences have given her the ambition to move towards success by living limitlessly, refusing to repeat the cycle and helping others to make the same choice.

No longer is someone coming to hire you, to invest in your company, to sign you, to pick you. It’s on you to make the most important decision in your life: That's the message of a new book called Choose Yourself.
Life is a Roller Coaster
As we go through life we inevitably encounter ups and downs. Some people like to talk about the roller coaster ride they've been on and how life will get better as soon as things settle down.
Self-reliant people learn that while they aren't the cause or the block that comes up they always are the person responsible. When you say "life is roller coaster" be sure to tack on "and it's a fun ride"
On the show, we expected to talk to a popular blogger and author who confirmed he'd be with us and then didn't show up. We just assumed that he had circumstances that kept him from being with us and rode the roller coaster for 30 minutes… Turns out our cohosts have been on roller coasters a few times and enjoy it.
We were able to share our best stories and ideas about becoming the kind of person that makes the world a better place.
We hope you'll share your comments about the roller coaster of life, self-reliance, getting things done and what might make for better shows on self-reliant radio in the comments section below
What kinds of tools best help us achieve self-reliance? Certainly education, information, resources and awareness can help. But what about actual real tools, like hammers and saws? Our guest is Sarah Ingleby.
Sarah Ingleby, Tools for Self-Reliance
Sarah Ingleby is the CEO of Tools for Self-Reliance, a UK-based charity founded in 1980. The organization believes that a world free from extreme poverty and hunger can be created by helping people to be more self-reliant. And they find that concept to be especially true in Africa..
Tools for Self Reliance gives people the skills and tools to get them out of poverty and into work, supplying them with a chance they never had before. Each year they ship tens of thousands of high-quality refurbished tools and sewing machines to partners in Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Sierra Leone and Malawi, and pay for much-needed skills training.
What does goalsetting and peak performance have to do with self-reliance? Self-reliance is actually crucial to living your full capacity and achieving what you say you want. Our guest is Gary Ryan Blair.
Gary Ryan Blair, Goals Guy
Gary Ryan Blair is the President of The GoalsGuy, a highly focused training organization whose mission is to help their clients build and sustain superior performance. Known as The Goals Guy and New York Times #1 Best Selling Author of Everything Counts, he has spent over 20 years developing his expertise in all areas of peak performance.
Gary has 8 "not so easy" steps on how to become self-reliant. "Self-reliance a powerful concept which encourages you taking full responsibility for your own wants and needs — physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and economic," he says. "You must embrace self-reliance so that you can enjoy greater freedom over your present and future circumstances in life."
When we started the BillionsRising project we were thinking that self-reliance was a global problem but were focused on the "bottom billion" in the developing world.
Since then we have grown to understand that helping the poor domestically and throughout the world is the same.
Then we talked to Tom Justin… Today's guest on self-reliance radio. Tom gave us a another way to look at self-reliance: EVERYONE can use these principles to create a better life themselves, and to help anyone anywhere to achieve their dreams.
Listen and learn as we did from our guest Tom Justin.
