Growing Nutritious Food – Preserving Healthier Seeds
We’re seeing a resurgence of interest in growing your own food, a healthy trend which allows for fresher food with more flavor. When people grow some of their own produce, they may turn to commercially available seeds or seedlings. However, do those seeds yield the healthiest – and even more disease-resistant – food? Is there a place for older varieties – and will older varieties still be around in the future? Diane Brandon, your Host and author of Intuition for Beginners, is joined this week by Janisse Ray, a Naturalist and long-time Gardener, as well as author of The Seed Underground – A Growing Revolution to Save Food. Ms. Ray grew up in a rural area and has developed a concern about the variety of seeds available to us and their future. She shares both her concerns and what we can do about the situation with us.

We started as Hunter Gatherers, and over time became Villagers, settling in areas where we could plant grains. The irony is rife here, since we are now at war with those large corporate giants who have attacked our grains, competing with, and eliminating nature for profit and control. Libby Patterson is actively engaged in a humanitarian project she calls 'Plant Palz Network' that protects and preserves the native aromatic botanical heritage, to create a legacy for our future generatio
