Third & Short: Dayna O'Gorman - Seattle Seahawks

    in Sports

Host Wanda Wiedman discusses injuries around the NFL and the Seattle Seahawks with NFLFemale OFR Dayna O'Gorman.

Seattle Seahawks lose in OT against the St. Louis Rams in a nail-biter ending. We discuss the absence of Kam Chancellor and if it has any factor to the loss.

Losing momentum at first but then Seahawks take control of the 4th quarter scoring 18 unanswered points against the Rams.

But with 53 seconds left and the game tied, it was safety Dion Bailey who tripped and missed the tackle opportunity for a Nick Foles pass to Lance Kenricks 37-yds into the endzone for a touchdown.

Green Bay Packers stuff Seattle Seahawks; move to 2-0

    in Sports

The Seattle Seahawks had won three straight games but all of those wins were in Seattle. The venue on Sunday night was Lambeau Field, were the Seahawks have only won one time, in 1999. The Packers relied on key backups to come away with a 27-17 victory.

Eddie Lacy left the game, in the first quarter, with an ankle injury. James Starks took the ball 20 times and finished with 95 yards rushing.  The offensive line was missing Bryan Buluga, who had knee surgery on Saturday. Don Barclay made his first start since the 2013 playoffs and the offensive line provided protection and running lanes.  Aaron Rodgers was only sacked twice, and the Packers finished with 127 yards rushing.

Nate Palmer replaced the injured Sam Barrington at middle linebacker. The Packers defense held Marshawn Lynch to 41 yards on 15 carries, and could not get untracked.  The Packers were making initial contact in the backfield and gang tackling the powerful running back.  Russell Wilson lead the Seahawks in rushing with 71 yards, as the Packers struggled against the read option.

Two fourth quarter turnovers sealed the victory.  Special teams player Jayrone Elliott ceased his moment.  Elliott made a one handed interception on a pass inteded for Marshawn Lynch. The turnover led to a Mason Crosby field goal, and a 10 point lead.  As the Seahawks made one last surge, Elliott came up big again. He punched the ball out of Fred Jacksons grasp, and Micah Hyde recovered, with 22 seoconds left.

Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks game preview

    in Sports

In week one, the Green Bay Packers recovered an onside kick to secure the win against the Chicago Bears.  A sigh of relief came over Packer fans, because the last year in the NFC Championship Game, a poorly executed onside kick was the final straw, in a Seattle Seahawk comeback.

The last time the Packers and Seahawks met was in the NFC Championship Game, and the Packers controlled most of the game.  Depending on what team you cheer for, it was either an epic meltdown or a great comeback.  In either case, the Seahawks won the game and advanced to the Super Bowl.

It is now 2015, and a new season.  The Packers still boost a high powered offense, while the Seahawks are now dealing with the effects of success.  The have lost some players via free agency, and their top offensive lineman in Max Unger, to trade.  One player that will not be on the field, Cam Chancellor.  He is a Seahawk, but has been holding out for a new contract.  His presence is missed on the field, and the defense struggled at times against the St. Louis Rams. The Rams beat the Seahawks, in overtime and were aided by a special teams touchdown.

The St. Louis Rams are still trying to figure out their running game, but they attacked areas that may have been filled by Chancellor.  Jared Cook, the Rams tight end, led the team with five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Would Chancellor have made a difference?  The Green Bay Packers have a serviceable tight end in Richard Rodgers and might be able to exploit the middle of the field. Eddie Lacy may not average five yards per carry, but can churn out some tough yards.

Jimmy Graham was the biggest addition, and even though he scored a touchdown, he was not a huge factor.  That could change against a Packers defense that has struggled defending tight ends.  Sam Barrington is out for the year, so how will the Packers defend Graham?
