Highways have been a way of life for man for millennia. Paul was struck down on the road to Damascus and even today when you visit Rome you can still walk on one of the roads that the apostles walked on. It’s called The Appian Way and was built by the Romans
And that's what we're going to talk about today, one very special road, that I called Route 777.
Now there are all kinds of roads in the world today. Some are very good roads, some are very bad roads and some are even dangerous roads, because some people on our highways that have more horsepower than horse sense. Today that Appian Way built by the Romans and traveled upon by Peter and Paul is still in better condition than some modern roads only built a decade or two ago. And that’s because The Romans laid a deep foundation, now there’s a lesson for us.
Now there are many historic roads in the world today. Where I live near Pittsburgh we have Route 30 also known as The Lincoln Highway built by General Braddock to connect the east coast with Fort Pitt at the point of the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. And Terri and I love to travel the Route 5 along Lake Erie also known as the Great Lakes Seaway Trial.
And there’s one very short but important road, called The Via Dolarosa, or the way of sorrows that our Lord took as He went from the judgment hall to Cavalry. And that’s what inspired young Lindsay who led us in worship at Sozos last week. So remember to check out the pictures of us raising our white flags and lifting up the crosses with Lindsay.
But the road we'll look at today is the Holy Highway. The straight and narrow, the old S & N.
And stay tuned as we learn three eternal truths from Jesus contained in these two verses: There is a decision to face, a direction to follow and a destiny to find.
Today Nancy Varner will share her testimony. Born and raised in Charleston South Carolina Nancy and her family started attending North Charleston United Methodist Church when she was 11. She was involved in their Youth Fellowship and singing in the youth choir. While at North Charleston she met, fell in love, and married Gregg. They’ve been married for nearly 39 years. Gregg pastors Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lydia, South Carolina, a congregation they love very much.
Nancy originally shared this message when Gregg attended an Annual Conference a few years ago. The congregation’s response was encouraging and they told others. So Nancy humbly began sharing this message with about twenty five churches including women’s groups.
About a year ago, through God's guidance that at first glance would appear to be coincidence, Nancy found Kenneth and John’s Tribulation Now ministry and these SDG Bible studies. Then the Lord “nudged” her to change up the end of this message as her eyes were opened to the fact that we are right on the precipice of Jesus’ soon return. This knowledge drove Nancy back to her first love of the Lord like a freight train, filling her with a love and compassion for the lost.
Now Nancy has a burning in her heart to tell all who will listen about the long-suffering grace of God and how He patiently waited on her to return to Him like the prodigal son. Our Father longs for a love relationship with each one of us and what He did for Nancy He will do for you!
Their ministry has brought joys and blessing beyond all Gregg and Nancy could ever ask or imagine and she’s forever grateful to Gregg for encouraging her to share this message of salvation and hope. Nancy also thanks Pastor Tom Evatt and North Charleston United Methodist Church and of course God for the strong Christian foundation they provided her.
In Joshua chapter 10 there’s an amazing story of the day the sun stood still hence the title of this message: Sun Stand Still.
Now there are many naysayers and atheists who serve the devil and want us to believe that the Bible is merely myth, but they’re wrong because that’s simply not true.
These stories are true; they ARE historical fact as we’ll see in this message.
Now there’s no story in the entire Bible with the exception perhaps of Jonah and the whale that has been more ridiculed than the long day the sun stood still for Joshua.
But the story of Jonah in the belly of the whale’s a story for another day!.
Now these skeptics claim that this story of the sun standing still actually disproves the authenticity of the Bible.
But actually in a very real, strange and glorious way it authenticates and substantiates the authenticity, the reliability, the infallibility, and the factuality of the Word of God.
And, that’s what we’ll see today as we study the story of the day that the sun stood still.
Stay tuned as we look at the historical, philosophical and heavenly battles that wage over the day the sun stood still!
Romans 8:1 KJV
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Wow now that's the untarnished truth! Yet most embrace the first part believing there's no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, yet they deny the second part and don't believe that we must be walking in the spirit and NOT in the flesh!
But Paul would have never have said this if it wasn't possible.
So in this message we'll learn how to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh!
Stay tuned to learn about the Circumference, Commencement, Character and Continuation of our walk in the spirit as we learn how from another passage from Colossians 2:1-10.
Matthew 7:15 begins with a dire warning from Jesus, "Beware of false prophets" and that's an important message for all of us today.
So Jesus, Himself warns us that these false prophets are like wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Now wolves are bold and they attack fiercely, in fact wolves and not lions or bears are the most dreaded enemy of the shepherd.
And that's because unlike lions and bears who usually only kill for food, once a wolf gets the taste of blood, they go into a frenzy and kill far more than they can ever possibly eat.
So Jesus says beware; and when Jesus says beware we ought to beware.
But Jesus not only warns that these wolves are dangerous, He also says they are deceptive since they come in sheep’s clothing.
So we’ve all been warned now be sure to tune in to learn more about the fleece they wear, the fruit they bear and the fate they all share!
Today's focus scripture contains one of the most awesome promises in the entire Bible.
Here Jesus teaches us how to get our prayers answered.
Now as a Christian, the time will come in your walk if it’s not already here, when the most important thing for you on this earth is for God to answer your prayers.
Now remember we are looking at the words of Jesus, and if you cannot believe these words, you have no right to believe you’re saved because the same Bible that promises salvation, promises answered prayer.
So if you cannot believe one promise, why should you believe the other?
Look at it clearly and plainly, Our LORD says,
Matthew 7:7-11 KJV
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Today we'll look at a 3 key truths from this passage on answered prayer and they are:
A promise to claim.
A process to following .
A provision to enjoy.
So stay tuned to learn how to plug into the power of prayer!
So many people have the wrong idea about money. Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy a marriage but not love.
And money can buy four years in college but it can’t buy an education. Plus… GOD NEVER SAID MONEY IS EVIL!!!
Tune into this very important message on money and what God has to say about a man and his money!
1 Corinthians 15:55
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
This weekend we celebrate the resurrection of The LORD Jesus Christ and in the early church when one believer greeted another the first would say "He is risen!" And the other would reply "He is risen indeed!"
Now I'm almost certain although I cannot prove it that Paul was inspired by what King David wrote in Psalm 23:4 when he penned the words: O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
King David wrote: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4).
Now, death isn't a very popular subject in our culture.
As a matter of fact, when you mention death, people will often change the subject.
We do everything we can to avoid thinking about death.
Ironically, man's the only creature who knows he’s going to die and yet he’s trying desperately to forget it!
We try to do everything we can do to obscure the fact that we’re winding down to the grave.
Then even at the grave, we make them look like a memorial park, or a magnificent garden.
So we just don’t like the idea of dying, but death is a very real fact, and actually something that we’re shouldn't fear, in fact like Paul we are to ask death where is your sting.
So let's see how what King David wrote in Psalm 23 ought to inspire us to look death straight in the face, accept it as a fact, yet acknowledge it as a defeated foe and even embrace it as a friend!
Yes even as a friend!!!
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters”
In this message I'll share a personal testimony on how the LORD via His rhema word brought Psalm 23 alive to me last month during a flight to Tampa on a business trip.
Then we'll see just how very similar we actually are to sheep, yes sheep!
So be sure to tune into this very important message on where to find the green grass!
You know the truth is that Jesus is the only reason that we live, as a matter of fact, He came that we might live. So Jesus is the only reason I live.
Jesus said, “I’ve come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Yet most people today don’t have life, they merely exist and are fighting to live as Satan robs them of life. Remember he comes to steal and to kill and to destroy.
So we’re not fools for following the Lord Jesus Christ, the real fools are those merely existing and mistaking that for living.
They don’t understand life, and what living truly is.
This is the final miracle in the gospel of John and they were recorded so that we may believe!
Stay tuned to learn the 4 even deeper truths contained in this miracle that are the key to abundant life and that's
Life from Jesus
Liberty through Jesus
Love for Jesus and...
Loyalty to Jesus.
in The Bible
1 John 3:1-9
This message focuses on the often misunderstood topic of true salvation.
Now the devil's the great counterfeiter and he'd just as soon send you to hell from the pew as from the gutter.
In fact, I think he'd prefers us to have a form of religion but not a genuine and real salvation through a relationship with The LORD Jesus Christ.
And I believe the curse of our twenty first century is that we have many churches filled with baptized pagans.
Churches full of empty people who've never really been saved.
They may have culture, but they don't have Calvary.
They have ritual, but they don't have reality.
They have form, but they don't have force.
They have religion but they don't have righteousness.
So what we're going to be studying today, is real salvation.
This message is a warning to everyone listening lest you be deceived and miss the whole thing.
Would you consider life's TROUBLES a friend?.
Now you probably never viewed TROUBLE as your friend?
But how would you like to have a friend to help make you a mature believer?
Well the truth is we do and his name is Trouble.
So if trouble is actually our friend... what exactly IS a "friend"?
Well a true friend is someone that makes us better people.
In fact The Bible says, “As iron sharpens iron so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”
That means that a true friend will put an edge on our lives and a true friend will make us sharper people!
Now my best of friends do that for me and praise God for men like Johnny and Bill!
And sometimes friends like them that love me so much will even hurt me in order to help me!
The Bible says in Proverbs, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceit.”
So how would you like to have a friend like that?
Well I'm telling we already do and his name is Trouble.
And when we learn to view life's troubles from this perspective, the entire situation changes as we go through trouble.
So in this message we'll dive into John 6 after the 3rd miracle of the fishes and loaves and the feeding of over 5000 people to where Jesus walked on water!
So stay tuned for six truths in these scriptures PROVING that Jesus is God’s answer to our deepest despair. Now we can call these truths the six anchors of the soul.
These are six truths to save for your next storm that our old friend named "Trouble" is certain to stir up in our lives!
