The human body was created to be in Balance. Our body relies on its chemical processing plant to keep a metabolic balance. Salt is paradoxical. The Bible list nearly 50 references to salt. Our contemporary culture thinks salt is a health robbing additve linked to cardiovascular and other disease. Animals, no matter how much mineral content they may derive from th vegetable matter they graze on, instinctively seekk out natural salt licks to complete their diet or they will die. The Scripture for this teaching is: Ye are the salt of the earth but is he salt has lost his savour wherewith shall it be salted? It is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13

Evangelism is Shaking and Shining (Part 2)
As Christians we have the ability to be exactly what the world needs. We can be like salt preserving a rotting society and bringing taste to a tasteless culture. We can be like light giving hope and direction to those stumbling in darkness. As light we can attract people to the Light of the world. As salt we can cause people to thirst after the Water of life.
Our usefulness depends on our distinctiveness. We must not lose our distinctiveness, or we will lose our usefulness. Notice what Jesus said: "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."
I find these words to be sobering. When He says "good for nothing," He's not talking about God's not loving us anymore. He is talking about our no longer being useful in impacting the world.
The question is, How does salt lose its saltiness? The answer is that it loses saltiness by gaining other stuff. Every other chemical added to salt weakens its saltiness. Salt alone is more powerful than salt and something else. The same is true of light. Anything other than light added to light weakens the power of light.
