Sara is an Official State Musician of Texas. She served from May 2010-May 2011, as decreed by the Texas State Legislature. Currently she is working on material for what will be her 12th major CD to be released in summer of 2012. She creates music for adults, families and children. In honor of her role as state musician, Sara wants to give back to her home state. In May 2011 she released “The Best of Times", a compilation CD of her songs recorded by other amazing Texas musicians, including Willie Nelson, Marcia Ball, Shawn Colvin, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Ruthie Foster and 25 other musical acts. All proceeds go to Theatre Action Project; a group that goes out and helps put art, music and theatre back into public schools. Sara has released "Absence of Blame," her most recent CD; put out an animated DVD for children entitled, “Big Kid, Little Kid” (which immediately won Dr. Toy’s award for Best Summer Vacation item), and produced “Sweet Songs”, a collection of Austin female musicians singing songs for families. She’s known for her one-of-a-kind live shows, which can vary from intimate and soothing to hilarious and rocking. She can deliver it all as a solo performer or part of either her adult driven or rocking children’s band. Award-winning author Trice Hickman will join our host for a candid interview about how she discovered her love for writing which led to starting her own publishing company. Breif bio: I grew up on the eastern coast of North Carolina; the middle child of two of the best parents on earth! I was a precocious kid, the one who always asked, “Why?” I loved reading books because they were the perfect escape from my small hometown. I’d meet interesting people and travel to exciting places, all without leaving the Michael Jackson (rest in peace) covered walls of my bedroom. During my undergraduate years at Winston-Salem State University, (Go RAMS!) I continued my love affair with books. I even fantasized about writing a novel, envisioning myself at the top of the New York Times Bestsellers List. But upon graduation, and with the next month’s rent looming, I put that dream on hold and chose a more practical route…getting a 9 to 5 to pay the bills!
