Our guest, Dr. Carla Hayden, will talk about how The Baltimore Public Library System was a pillar and a fixture of and for the community. The library system displayed how libraries still remain relevant in an age where "some" people's perception of the library denotes a fade to black, whereas others are witnessing and experiencing a palpable change in resurgence. Dr. Hayden will share and elaborate on her library spaces and specifically, the "Pennsylvania Branch" on how this particular branch played a major role in the protests and demonstrations of Baltimore. In essence, how the city's library space matters!!

The most recent renovation to the lower-level of Jackson Library was the result of an on-going collaboration between the University Libraries and Undergraduate Studies at UNCG. The two units raised funds to expand the university’s multimedia literacy services, the Digital Media Commons and the Digital ACT Studio. The renovations created free-standing consultation space for the Digital ACT Studio, and added three enhanced maker spaces in the Digital Media Commons; one for 3D and electronics making, one for video making, and another for gaming. The project took a year to complete, from planning to finish. The Department Heads of both the DMC and DACTS worked closely with university administrators, designers, contractors, and our facilities department to bring the project to a successful end by fall 2015.

Down South and Dirty continues to ask questions about race relations. In the movement for social justices many whites and blacks share common goals for freedom, liberty and equality for all Americans. However with rise of the #blacklivesmatter movement and continuing incidents of police butality and the political revolution of the Bernie Sanders campaign. We find out that in the progressive movement Whites and Blacks don't always understand each other very well. The question we have is how do we behave when in each others spaces. When white allies and supporters are in black spaces how do you introduce ideas lend support without offending and the same for Blacks how do we deal with communication and cultural differences when in White spaces. Down South and Dirty invite you in for a respectful and thought driving conversation on race and cultural exchanges for the betterment of our world...
The space dilemma can be extremely frustrating when entertaining family and friends during the holidays.
Is your extended family growing and your house is still the same size? Yeah, we have that challenge, too.
We've invited Kim Lewis, the powerfully creative lead designer behind more than 120 homes for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and is the designer for FYI's 'Tiny House Nation.'
When The Washington Post asked Kim how to max storage in a small space, Kim answered:
"Storage can come in all shapes and sizes. I say let's get creative with your furniture. You can use things like vintage suitcases stacked as your side tables...Each suitcase is a storage space. Storage ottomans work well as a linen closet! For food storage, I suggest a butcher cart in the kitchen, with bins below -- I have a tiny kitchen, and this is what I do! Also acts as a great island when you're prepping food. For outdoor gear, I have suspended a wood pallet from the ceiling with eye hooks."
Theresa challenged Kim's holiday entertaining creativity with a 1-cubic-foot box challenge. What would you pack in a 1-cubic foot box that are your holiday entertaining essentials?
Hey ya'll thanks for listening!
It's a wrap on the R- Factors" series and I will be sharing 4 more great and simple "R-Factor Formulas", that can help you prepare your mind for whatever life happens to bring your way! As we are all aware, there is a "Universal Law", called the "Murphy's Law", and this law is inevitable in life. However, just by paying attention to the various "cues" in life (Luke 21:25) - can help us stay better focused and prevent us from making self-sabotaging decisions or repeating the same mistakes that land us into pitfalls that take forever to climb out of!
One profound "revelation" I've learned in life is to always trust your gut! GOD created us with an innate instinct to "safeguard", and if we ignore these cues, we will have to deal with the outcome. "Re-defining" yourself is like going through the fire or a "refinery" and coming out like "pure" gold! The reality is not how bright your light shine, but "Whose" light shining through you!.
R-Factors 102 pt 2
*RESPECT = RECIPROCATION - TRINITY, SELF, OTHERS
Reality Check = Relate and Resonate
Receptivity = Responsiveness and Reassess-Self
Redefine = Redefinition and Reformation
Catch: "R-Factors" pt 3 to hear about 4 other R-formulas that can help you keep sane in a world of insanity! It's been great sharing and thanks for being such great loyal listeners! It's been real..
