Robert Brewer aka "Football Rob" weighs in on the controversial statements made by former Super Bowl champion head coach Tony Dungy towards St. Louis Rams defensive end Michael Sam. According to Tampa Tribune reporter Ira Kaufman, Dungy stated that he would not have drafted Michael Sam due to the distraction he may cause to a team because of his sexual orientation. Dungy later released a statement to further clarify his comments.
Frequent guest contributor Gary "Kool" Ayd of MediaAidEntertainment.com also stops by to discuss this touchy situation.
The Legendary Soul Man SAM MOORE, voted one of the 100 top pop voices of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine, joins bluegrass group Nu-Blu as a special guest on their upcoming single release "Jesus and Jones" - a song that pays tribute to the late George Jones.
Moore, who had been invited personally by George before he passed away, performed at what became Jones' tribute show Playin' Possum: The Final No Show in November of 2013. Sam took no time to agree to participate in recording this song. "I've been a fan of George's music for a long, long time and was fortunate enough that we called each other friends," says Moore. "This song honors him and says what we all have felt about him."
"We absolutely love this song and its message," says Nu-Blu's Carolyn Routh. "We played the demo for George's widow Nancy Jones and she loved it. With her encouragement we recorded it and just knew we wanted to add a guest vocalist to the recording. Then we thought back to the November tribute show and remembered it was Sam Moore who had just brought the house down. You could see the love he had for George."
Over the years, Sam has crossed over from soul, the genre his hit song "Soul Man" named, to rhythm & blues, jazz, big band, pop, and country. He was nominated for an ACM, and two CMAs for his collaboration with Conway Twitty on "Rainy Night In Georgia" on the Country, Rhythm & Blues album. Their video is considered a classic and one of the top country duets of all time.
Kenny Pitts worked both behind the scenes and within "The Unusual Calling of Charlie Christmas," created by Outsiders Productions. This story follows a socially awkward high school janitor, bullied and overlooked his whole life, who, still haunted by the loss of his father, finds strength and purpose after receiving mysterious spiritual instruction to become a costumed vigilante in Oklahoma. In the meantime, a tender friendship developing with a neighbor, Gracie, becomes more powerful.
The film has been screened at several festivals, including the Florida Super Con's Super Geek Film Festival where it received accolades for obtaining a full house. For more info., visit www.charliechristmas.com.
The St. Louis Rams knew a media circus was coming when they drafted Michael Sam, but they didn't expect it to escalate so quickly or be jump started by Tony Dungy. Sports Page host Pat Whitehurst is joined by Scott Poppen and Stephen Sheehan to discuss the prospect of Sam making the Rams and the roles the media plays in causing these distractions.
Fantasy football draft strategies along with value picks and potential busts will also be discussed. Join the conversation and Be Seen, Be Heard, Be a Fan!
Pastor Brad Morgan of New Life Beginnings Church in Brookshire / Pattison, TX talks about a word God gave him that there would be unusual breakthroughs for men. He says that with these breakthroughs will come revelation. God is going to speak to people during this time and provide unusual breakthroughs. Ezekiel 36:8 speaks about God's tilling of people and then the sowing. God wants to break up the un-tilled ground in our life so that He can provide the harvest.
Realize that you are unique. God has made you in a unique way. You will be tilled by God and he will do a work inside of you. Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things that you do not know." There are things inside of you that are hidden, but in this season, God will open up to you. God will also provide the provision, yes, money.
Malachai 4:5 speaks of how God will turn the hearts of fathers. These will be spiritual fathers. The hearts of the fathers will be turned toward children. This is a family verse, but it is also a verse for people that are still chilren in understanding what God has for their life. People desperately need spiritual fathers to come alongside of them and help them.
Remember, God has something for you to do. Find the thing you have passion in, and God will multiply the blessings in your life. The best is yet to come. The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter until the full day. Our greatest days are ahead of you. Whatever God has called you to do, the best is yet to come.
I will be discussing and analyzing Tony Dungy's comments concerning Michael Sam. He said he wouldn't have drafted Sam basically because of the distraction of having an openly gay player in the locker room. He also does not think the St. Louis Rams are ready for that media storm for employing a gay player. Chris Loupe and The Yard/HBCU Sports' Duane Nash will join me in discussing Dungy's thinking in making those comments. Does Dungy have a point or was he merely being homophobic?
