A dish I created years ago which I call saffron rice with spicy shrimp, the spices and saffron gives it a unique taste and the peppers make it hot and spicy while the yogurt cools it down (This recipe can be adjusted with fewer peppers if it’s too spicy).
Ingredients you will need: 3 tbsp olive oil 2 pounds of shrimp (peeled) 2 yellow saffron long grain rice 10 oz bags 7 cups water 16 oz frozen green peas 5 green long hot peppers (chopped fine) 2 red hot pepper (chopped fine) 3 jalapeño peppers (chopped fine) 1 green pepper (chopped fine) 2 red peppers (chopped fine) 1 yellow pepper (chopped fine) 1 orange pepper (chopped fine) 1 large sweet onion (chopped fine) 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
Brooklyn born Whitney Warden will be my guest on next week's "Segments from Saffron". Whitney is an abstract artist and sometimes comedian. We will be discussing his new catalog, art, and current events. Good stuff as always!!!
Happy 2015! Join author/novelist, Jessica Baptiste, for her online radio show, "Segments from Saffron". On the first show, we will be discussing the Oscar-nominated 1985 documentary, "Streetwise". This gritty and poignant documentary follows the lives of runaway children on the streets of 1980s Seattle, and their struggles to survive. The film's director, Martin Bell, and is legendary photographer wife, Mary Ellen Mark are now filming a follow-up film on the original films subjects. Beth, creator and moderator for the Streetwise Facebook page will be joining in on the discussion. Are runaway children still running? Has teenage crime and drug-use still a major problem? And whatever happened to the Streetwise kids? Tune In...

While most of the time we think of flowers as decorative items, a way to win over the heart of a female, or a way to show sympathy or congratulations, they have many other uses. In fact, we often eat flowers in our daily meals, as saffron, dill, sage, and even artichokes are technically flowers. But what other uses do flowers have - especially when distilled down to their essence?
This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes Dawn Wood of doTerra Wellness Advocate for a discussion on flowers, their essential oils, and the uses they might have beyond that of health the therapeutic.
Studies have found there is a strong correlation between flowers and emotional health. As mentioned before, flowers can evoke positive reactions from people who receive them or encounter them. While their natural beauty is pleasing to the eye, their essence can still have benefits. The doTerra product line offers many essential oils to help with a variety of things. For instance, their essential oil of geranium offers outstanding benefits for soothing skin and is a common ingredient in many skin care products. MORE >>>>>>>>

Not my usual political show, this is in the spirt of the pending holidays. I talk about how I grew up cooking, shopping, farming, and getting friendly with food. I am the main cook around here, have taught my wife and three sons, and love food and prep even more than politics.
I reveal what passes for wisdom in my kitchen, why I frequent Boston's open-aitr Haymarket, things I learned in the fields with my Grandfdad Bill, and my relatiopnship with my food nemesis, Grandmother Mable.
Maybe I'll get into the necessity of well-stocked pantries and spice cabinets, and maybe my tips for saffron prep. I'm not sure yet.
