John Carver Show - It Changed Everything

    in Self Help

“Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the ocean, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals.

Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. "Are you a good farmhand?" the farmer asked him.

"Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.

Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work.

Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!" (LISTEN TO THE SHOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY)

Trust impacts us 24/7, 365 days a year. It undergirds and affects the quality of every relationship, every communication, every work project, every business venture, every effort in which we are engaged. It changes the quality of every present moment and alters the trajectory and outcome of every future moment of our lives—both personally and professionally.

In business, trust is established through reputation.  Jesus has been our “brand” for some years and we still have trouble being an unpaid advertiser for Him.  Do we distribute Christ’s trust in the marketplace?  Look at EBAY…millions of people trust complete strangers EVERY year.

    C.D. - Charges Against the 6 BPD Officers - Justice or "Rush-tice"?

    in Current Events

When it seemed that Baltimore State's Attorney, Marilyn Mosby had an iron-clad case against the 6 BPD officers, in the death of Freddie Gray, information has surfaced, which seeks to render her decision to bypass the Grand Jury process as rushed and devoid of legal basis.

While the circumstances around Gray's death remain unclear, a key point in this, is the knife he was carrying, and whether or not it was a violation of the law.

Attorney Mosby maintained publicly, that the knife was not a violation of Maryland law, but not only might this not be the case, but it could very well be, it violated Baltimore law, which would take precedent. This does however highlight the dynamic between state and local ordinances and policies, which plays itself out for example, when the issue is the right to bear firearms.

Al Sharpton visited Baltimore, as well as the newly appointed U.S. Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, who has been asked by the Mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, to conduct an investigation of its police force, in the midst of allegations of serious civil and illegal violations.

I would only hope, though wouldn't be surprised, if Al Sharpton's presence, in his role as an "advisor", has not been a factor in this request. If so, this speaks to my clear and unwavering view that he is an impediment to progress, and will continue to be so, as long as black America is naive and deluded enough to take him seriously.

The fact does remain, that Freddie Gray died, in a manner that many find troubling; he, being targeted, pursued and manhandled, because of his race.

Time will tell what will happen during and after the trial of the 6 BPD officers, and of course, the bigger issue of the state of existence of the residents of Baltimore, which already has undergone a very volatile period, from which we hope it can rebound.

Why Caregivers Find it So Stressful Dealing with Healthcare Providers & Agencies

    in Caregiving

Join Dave Nassaney, The Caregiver’s Caregiver, as he interviews Author, Carol Levine, the director of The Families and Health Care Project at The United Hospital Fund, a health services research and philanthropic organization whose primary mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York (and elsewhere).

Their campaign, Next Step in Care, provides easy-to-use guides to help family caregivers and health care providers work closely together to plan and implement safe and smooth transitions for chronically or seriously ill patients.

Transitions are moves between care settings, for example, hospital to home or rehab facility, or the start or end of home care agency services. Because transitions are often rushed, miscommunication and errors can occur.

Her book, Living in the Land of Limbo: Fiction and Poetry about Family Caregiving, is a first-of-its-kind anthology of short stories and poetry about family caregiving by renowned authors and others has just been published. Compiled and edited by Carol Levine, and published by Vanderbilt University Press, the new volume is a valuable addition to the national discussion on family caregiving and to the Fund’s work, which has focused on improving partnerships between caregivers and health care professionals since 1996.

Join Cherise, George and Scott and special guest Rick Phillips, T1D and Rheumatoid Arthritis

In 1974 I was a typical guy; I loved the outdoors, riding bicycles, cars and of course I had an interest in girls. My diagnosis was not at all unexpected. My mother had type 1 diabetes as did her sister who unfortunately died when Mom and she were children. But the truth is; I had lived with diabetes my entire life, first in vitro as my mother had gestational diabetes and then as a child when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Then while visiting Disneyworld, I became very ill, was rushed home to Indiana and admitted to the hospital. I had my first insulin injection even before I was admitted. I was released from the hospital on my 17th birthday. I learned two things that week. Illness can happen any time and Disneyworld is not always the happiest place on earth.

For the next 26 years I was reasonably self-sufficient. There were no major illnesses or issues. But then I started to feel awful all of the time and I was having difficulty moving, walking or even sitting. That was when I was introduced to the new world of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was in the middle of my career and having RA was not a part of my plan.

I worked for 12 more years after diagnosis with RA until I was unable to keep pace and had to find a different purpose in life. So in 2008 I accepted (with great reluctance) disability retirement from my employer.

The truth is often forgotten however. I am first and foremost a husband (Sheryl and I have been married since 1977), a father (2 wonderful sons), and grandfather to 3 of the most charming, intelligent, and awesome grandchildren (I know opinions may vary).

But through it all I still love bicycles, collecting things, laughing a lot (mostly at me), sarcasm, and most importantly having a good time.

The Solid Rock - Life Touch

    in Christianity

B.L.I.F. Network presents Life Touch with our host Evangelist Owen Bruce. Our Life Touch broadcasts are designed to be a devotional time where those who tune in can receive a touch from God through prayer and the Word of God.  This episode we will pray according to Luke 6:46-49,  that our lives may remain firmly planted on the solid Rock that cannot be moved no matter how great the storm.

"Anyone who comes and listens to me and obeys me is like someone who dug down deep and built a house on solid rock. When the flood came and the river rushed against the house, it was built so well that it didn't even shake." (Luke 6:47-48, CEV)
