.Cops After Death Of Gregory Towns Jr. While In Custody

ATLANTA (AP) -- The family of a man who died after Atlanta-area police used stun guns on him has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the former officers and the city, the family's lawyer said.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Fulton County Superior Court, says East Point police officers used their stun guns as many as 13 times on Gregory Towns Jr. while he was handcuffed. The lawsuit claims former police sergeant Marcus Eberhart and former corporal Howard Weems used excessive force in the April 11 incident.

"It's just heinous," attorney Chris Stewart told The Associated Press in a phone interview Thursday. "This isn't one of those cases where he punched an officer and they had to Taser him to calm him down."

The lawsuit comes amid increased attention on police use of force in the wake of the fatal shooting in of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Following that shooting, local police in Ferguson donned riot gear and fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters who refused to disperse and, at times, broke into nearby businesses.

While many police officers use their authority appropriately, there are some who view any act of disobedience as a call for extreme action, Stewart said.

"In our case, it wasn't about color, obviously, because the officers were black," Stewart said. "It was about power. He didn't walk when they said walk. He didn't stand when they said stand. And he didn't move fast enough when they said move."

    Exploring Pittsburgh's Rich History

    in Travel

World Footprints is excited to share one of our new favorite cities --Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (despite our football rivalries).  When most people who have never visited Pittsburgh think of the city, they may envision an industrial city filled with tall smoke stakes.  In reality, Pittsburgh is a vibrant, colorful, modern and pristine city that is very welcoming. The three rivers that meet at a point creates a flowing calming energy and provided the inspiration for Dutch artist Florentjn Hofman to select the city as her North American debut of his giant rubber duck.  Today, we will give you a glimpse into this remarkable city as we explore Pittsburgh's rich history through attractions like the Senator John Heinz History Center, we'll walk through the streets of The Hill Districk and we'll relive Pittsburgh's industrial past as we tour the Carrie Blast Furnaces.

    in Politics

The mind of a slave asks - Is it legal ? The mind of a free person asks - Is it Right ? Last night - People's sources of income and homes went up in smoke . Did Justice go up in smoke as well ?  As the sun sets  there are some peaceful and violent demonstrations. But where is the human experience - the realness of the night, the dark of the night. I encourage all that have a voice in this matter to call in and for the history books (so to speak)  speak your mind. This will be downloadable - you can send it to whomever you want.  I am just a voice in the wind of change. We are all shades of humanity meeting to establish a better tomorrow. Speak Up , Be Heard and Take Action.  All calls are heard;all voices hold value. Remember that Ghandi said "A eye for a eye leaves the whole world blind" . Be a visionary; even those that are blind have visions. Call/skype in 646 716 7259.
