Join Taylor Ellwood of Magical Experiments and Azucena Alev, John Karaisik, and Dr. Sarah Bowman as they discuss role playing games and magic. We'll explore if RPG's can be a gateway to pop culture magic and what rpg's can teach us about magic and what magic can teach us about RPG's. We'll also discuss how to adapt RPG's to pop culture magic.
Sarah Lynne Bowman, Ph.D., is a role-play studies scholar, participant-observation ethnographer, and game designer. She teaches as an adjunct professor for several institutions in English, Communication, and Humanities.
John's journey began when he gained interest in Chinese martial arts. His studies led him to Daoism - one of the most profound spiritual systems in existence. Daoism opened John up to the esoteric world, and he's never turned back since. He now practices a variety of rich spiritual systems, including Gnosticism, which he studies under a Gnostic bishop.
Azucena Alev was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where she currently lives and works. After picking up the occult practices at a young age, she began reading the Tarot and then expanded to other methods of divination. Her knowledge of the divinatory arts, along with her collection of decks, has grown ever since. In an effort to share her knowledge with others, she co-founded the Austin Spirituality Group, a free study group in the heart of Texas.

Today’s episode is “The Role of Church and Community Development”. We will discuss the history of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and its impact on community and society in particular and the role of the Church, in general, and its responsibility to community.
Our guest for today is Rev. Albert D. Tyson III, the Presiding Elder of the North District, Chicago Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. The AME Church was founded in 1787, and has a mission to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
Elder Tyson is highly involved in the AME Church, and the community and civic affairs of Chicago and beyond. His resume is extensive, and time does not permit me to share it all, but here are a few highlights. Elder Tyson is a member of the Board of Examiners of the Chicago Conference African Methodist Episcopal Church. He has served as the Vice-President and and the Parliamentarian of the Board of Directors for the Interfaith Organizing Project (IOP). Elder Tyson also has served as the Treasurer, and eventually, the President, of the Near Westside Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC). He is a former member of the Board of Trustees for Chicago City Colleges and was recently appointed as a commissioner with the Chicago Public Building Commission.

The Christian family has a unique role, by God's design. Based on today's standards, one might question that. Couples and their children are taking a closer look at what family life is meant to be and can be.
Today, the battle for the family is evident! And, the family has become a target of humanism – the amoral, atheistic philosophy that pervades our whole culture. So the questions are, "How shall we go about protecting our home and our families? And what must we do?”
We need to know what God intended and purposed for the family. Families have to be aware of and discern the influences that saturate our daily life – all those things that are contrary to God's Word. Then, once we know, believe and accept these, we can make a deliberate decision to live by God's standards.
Our goal is to uncover the importance of the family and its role. We will discuss the number one enemy of the family. We will also examine the role of husband, wife, and children. And, lastly, we ask that you please pray with us about how to survive the battle of the family.
Join us for our next Hope for Today podcast and tune in for the entire "Family Matters" series, over the next several weeks. Our hope is for you and us to live out the role of family, as God intended.
We are 75 days away from the Final Four weekend in Houston. This week, some of the NCAA Basketball representatives were in Houston to tout the upcoming annual event and what it means for Houston and Houstonians beyond the court. Doug Hall is the President and CEO of the local committee and joins us live to talk about all things Final Four Houston. You'll also hear from the NCAA's VP of Championships Dan Gavitt. March Madness is right around the corner and we want to make sure you're "Chalk Talk" ready!
The Houston teams have a lot of decisons to make. The Texans need some offensive help. The Rockets need help in general... and the Astros are looking to take the step toward a World Series season as spring training nears.
The AFC & NFC Championship games are set. We'll have a preview and live interview with one of our NFL experts! It's the time of year where there is a lot of movement around the NFL. Who's going where and what's next on the schedule? Check in for an update on this week's show.
And the Houston Rockets are still playing their Dr. Jekyl - Mr. Hyde role. Tune in to hear from head coach J. B. Bickerstaff after their most recent game with the Pistons. How 'bout that game Dwight Howard put together in the team's overtime loss to the Clippers? 36 points, 26 rebounds.... throw in four assists a steal and one block and you've got one heck of a game. The last time a Rocket put up those kind of numbers was 1990 when Hakeem Olajuwon had 35 and 27 vs Detroit. And only five other NBA players have put up those kind of numbers since 1990. Wow... now that's big.
It's a fun hour of sports you don't want to miss!
