In Genesis Chapter 21, Abraham and Sarah are blessed with the promised child of their flesh, Issac. There were various celebrations and a circumcision of the child. After a time, a Thorn of displeasure arose with Ishmael. The co-existence of Hagar and Ishmael with Sarah and Issac began to breed contention. Abraham harkened to the voice of God and his wife and cast out Hagar and Ishmael as a result. The promised blessing of a son of their own flesh was tarnished with dissension and resentment and ultimately, an eviction.

I've always wondered what exactly was the Apostle Pauls "thorn in the flesh."'No one knows what Paul's "thorn in the flesh" was many people think they know. Many sermons have been preached speculating that it was an eye problem; it was his mother-in-law, it was a physical affliction, it was a spiritual issue. There are always good arguments for why theirs is the definitive solution to the illusive thorn mystery.
Paul only tells us this: "And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure." (2 Corinthians 12:7) Even though this is a topic of great curiosity in the Christian world, I'm kind of glad we don't know.
Why? Not knowing precisely what his thorn was enables us to identify with Paul concerning the hard and mysterious place in our own life. Most of us have one. Most of us have a hardship or ailment or affliction or thorn that seems to defy prayer, fasting, confessing, and all other methods we have used to rid ourselves of it.
It was needed for Paul to assist him in humility but our own thorn may be there for another reason. The important thing is that God was in control even though Satan was the messenger who delivered it. God is in control of your thorn too. Jesus told Paul; "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." (Verse 9)
Maybe the thorn is a mystery but the lesson isn't.

Matthew 21 - In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!”And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

MOST people have heard of the phrase "Spare The Rod...Spoil The Child" which INCIDENTLY is a 'short phrase' that derives from Proverbs 13:24 which states "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes"
THIS is MORE than just DISCIPLINING our children when they are misbehaving. We are SPOILING the child when we DON"T equip them for life! When we DON"T make sure they get the QUALITY EDUCATION that they are going to NEED to make it in this world....The Ability to ANALYZE...PROBLEM-SOLVE....CALCULATE things WITHOUT the use of a computer..etc

Relationships and Romance Series, Part One - Ignite the Fire: Bring Back the Fun & Romance!
Let's face it, being in a relationship is work and sometimes can become a little boring. This reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite movies, Love Jones. It goes like this "When people who been together a long time say that the romance is gone, what they're really saying is they've exhausted the possibility". But this week on Let's Coach with Mark and Carolyn, we are going to talk about the possibilities - how to have fun and keep the spice going in your relationship.

More than two years—that's how long Paul stayed in Ephesus. When the Spirit finally allowed him to visit Ephesus, Paul settled in at the synagogue...until they expelled him, after about three months.
So, Paul and his disciples relocated at the School of Tyrannus, where Paul taught daily for two more years. Was this an effective use of his time? We'll see.
Also, what is an "extraordinary miracle?" I thought any miracle, by it's very definition, was extraordinary. Luke must have seen something extra-special!
Paul accomplished much and continued writing while in Ephesus. Again, we'll see.
Hang on for a rough ride in the later parts of the chapter...coming later.
