Greg Nielsen will be our guest on Monday, 8/19/13 at 8PM MDT. Greg Nielsen is the author of several books including Tuning to the Spiritual Frequencies, Beyond Pendulum Power, and RiverSpeak. He is a practicing astrologer and does Pendulum Life Readings. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Education at the University of Nevada. His life journey toward greater awareness included surviving leukemia, studying with Francois Nesbitt, a Joseph Campbell protégé, and managing a quarter billion dollars for a major Wall Street firm. At this time, his writing is focused on screenplays and poetry. He has recently completed Quirky Love, a comedic story about being single in a matrimania world. The current film project is CongressBook, a story about four PhDs who are strapped with six figure student loans and cannot find the jobs to pay them back. He is writing a new poetry book, Text Poems to My Friends. Robin's guest this month is JOHN FOX, a poet and certified poetry therapist. He is adjunct associate professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and teaches at John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, The Institute for Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, and Holy Names University in Oakland. John is author of Poetic Medicine: The Healing Art of Poem-making and is featured in the PBS documentary Healing Words: Poetry and Medicine. He presents at medical schools and hospitals throughout the United States as well as Ireland, England, Israel, Kuwait and South Korea. John served as President of The National Association for Poetry Therapy from 2003-2005 and is the current President of The Institute for Poetic Medicine. A nationally recognized expert on father-daughter relationships, Dr. Nielsen has been teaching, researching and writing about adolescents and father-daughter relationships since 1970. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and the recipient of the outstanding graduate's award in teacher education from the University of Tennessee in 1969, she taught high school for several years before earning a Master's Degree and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and Counseling. As a professor of adolescent and educational psychology, she began teaching at Wake Forest University in 1974. Among her honors are: the Outstanding Article Award in 1980 from the U.S. Center for Women Scholars, a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Association of University Women, and an American Bar Association award for establishing an internship program to provide legal aid to victims of domestic violence. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, National Council on Family Relationships, Council on Contemporary Familes, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts .
Dads of Great Students is a national program currently operating in 47 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Mexico and even China. Over 3000 schools utilize the fathers and father figures within their own community to enhance the environment and safety of their schools.
