We live in a 24/7 digital, hyper-connected world - from Facebook to Instagram, Twitter to Skype, the myriad of ways in which we can connect with our family, friends and community seem to be endless, but in the wake this past week's online scandal where celebrities like Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence and actress, Olivia Munn had their naked selfies both stolen and distributed throughout the internet, is anything private anymore? Recently, Facebook took a huge public relations hit when they attempted to authorize access to users cell phone contact lists, apps and cameras by forcing users to download a messenger app, but Facebook's user numbers have not decreased nor have there been a massive account closings in this scandals wake. Is there a price we have choosen to pay to "exist" in this online world? What can be done to gain our privacy, if anything? Is this a problem or a unintended consequence of having too much technology before appropriate laws exist to protect us?

As the subject of personal privacy continues to be one of concern and a proposed bill is about to be submitted for consideration, one wonders "What are my rights as an individual to expect privacy?" Just what does the Constitution of the United States guarantee? Does it guarantee anything?
If history tells us anything on this subject, it tells us, "Maybe, maybe not."

In case you haven't noticed, personal privacy, for the most part, does not exist anymore. Most large retail businesses have full surveillance systems. The highways and roads are replete with traffic cameras; satellites watch all of our streets; our government is bent on recording and storing our emails, texts and phone conversations; and criminals are having a hackaton on our computers and smart devices for fun and ill-gotten gains. Heck, if you have a smartwatch on, Google knows when you go to the bathroom!
What can people do to get some of their privacy back? How can the average Joe or Jane make any head way against the loss of privacy when the government, big business and criminals are all out to monitor our every move or are stealing our personal information? If you’re sick and tired of the big three (government, businesses and criminals) hacking your life, tune in and turn on to Working The Web To Win's broadcast of "The Piracy of Privacy," where you'll learn what you can do now to turn the tide against a world bent on fulfilling a 1984 reality.

Our show looks at an ethical dilemma experienced by our guest and how they resolved it. This week's guest on Do the Right Thing Right (Blogtalkradio) 12pm CST Thursday is Peter Mehit. Mr Mehit, owner of his own business consulting company, faced a number of personal and ethical choices as part of his life in corporate America that led him to understand that the root ethical problem facing America is us.
In order to maintain privacy and confidentiality, there are rules of access to Electronic Health Records (EHR) that can sometimes present barriers to delivering the best care.
Tracy Zervakis and her daughter recently had quite an adventure trying to get the right medicine at the right time, and ran into several roadblocks imposed by the access rules around EHR at her hospital.
While it sounds like a good idea to restrict access to those with a "need to know," in practice it sometimes get in the way. Perhaps we need to re-think those rules, not only for the events in a peaceful day at the office, but also in an emergency.
Joyce and Mike speak with Tracy about her adventure and about ideas for improving the flow of medical information to patients, to emergency personnel, and to all those who really do "need to know" in order to deliver the right care at the right time.
