    Luck of the Irish

    in Finance

The wearing of the green, the Shamrock, Leprechauns, the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. All heralded symbols of prosperity and luck, right?

However, the term 'Luck of the Irish' means bad luck and not good luck as most people think today. It is an ironic phrase used to describe the sad and tragic history of the people of Ireland. The Irish people are actually very unlucky as they had to leave their homeland in the 1800's  in order to survive. Many of the original Irish settlers in the US, the UK and Australia never saw their family again. Indeed on the night before a person emigrated a party was held, a sort of 'funeral' wake which is a traditional Irish custom when someone dies. The 'Wake' was held as the parents and siblings, even wives and children knew they were extremely unlikely to see their loved ones ever again.

Join Rick Grady and Jenny Stewart on Your Money, Your Matters and discover how you can change that bad luck to good luck.

Reader's Entertainment Radio Show Presents: Tina DeSalvo

    in Books

You'll want to tune in this Thursday, July 30th at 6pm EST. Author Tina DeSalvo joins me to chat about her books, life, and her Friend's Fight Together initiative. She enjoys writing stories where she can use her imagination, humor, empathy, and personal experiences to create characters and situations that she hopes will entertain readers. Her latest novel, Jewell: A Second Chance Novel, is Volume 2 in the series.

    Book Blurb:

Once invited into New Orleans' historic mansions to evaluate prized antiques, Dr. Jewell Duet held a coveted professorship at a top university. With her deep knowledge of Louisiana history and antiquities, she was the go-to person for anyone requiring professional appraisals. But, one hasty decision cost her both her reputation and possibly her freedom. Now, as she waits to discover if her future includes prison, Jewell knows that taking the job at Sugar Mill is necessary if she is to support her beloved grandmother who has advanced dementia.

Charming, sexy lawyer Beau Bienvenu's attraction to the intriguing historian vies with his distrust of her motives. Beau has one simple goal when it comes to the family that rescued him and made him part of their clan...protect them at all costs. He doesn't trust Jewell, nor her reason for taking the lowly job at Sugar Mill Plantation. What is she really up to? Is it possible Jewell and her quirky grandmother are there to try to profit from a Bienvenu family mystery? If so, both women are out of luck.

Jewell and Beau are at odds about almost everything. The only things they agree on are that family is everything...and that their mutual attraction is inconvenient.

Hope, Love and Second Chances Continue in the heart of Cajun Country.

Dr. Alim El-Bey speaks on "SHAMANIC ANIMAL SPIRIT GUIDES"

    in Spirituality

     "SHAMANIC ANIMAL SPIRIT GUIDES"

In the shamanic belief every thing is alive and carries with it power and wisdom. Power animals are an essential component of shamanic practice. They are the helping spirit which add to the power of the shaman and are essential for success in any venture undertaken by the shaman. Shamans believe that everyone has power animals – animal spirits which reside with each individual adding to their power and protecting them from illness, acting similarly to a guardian angel. Each power animal that you have increases your power so that illnesses or negative energy cannot enter your body.

    Everyone Has a Power Animal

Everyone is thought to have a few of these guardian power animals, from childhood on. Over the course of her or his life the person may have several. If a power animal leaves and one does not come to take its place the individual is considered, by the shaman, to be disempowered and therefore vulnerable to illness and bad luck. Power animal retrieval is a healing where the shaman goes to find a new power animal for you.

    Honoring Power Animals

It is important to honor your power animal. In shamanic work the power animal is essential, for a shaman who has no power is not going to have very good results. On a personal level, by honoring your power animal you let it know that its assistance is appreciated.

    Finding Your Power Animal

If you would like to find out who your power animal is, consulting a shamanic practitioner is an option. But to discover this on you own, you can ask for a dream and see if anything comes up. You can ask the power animal to show itself to you and if you start seeing one or another animal frequently that would be its way of revealing itself to you.

Turn the Page with Kayla Greenwell: Focus on Small Prestivus

    in Writing

TURN THE PAGE Host Kayla Greenwell interviews the literati and oddball creative-types with a focus on DIY and grassroots initiatives. This week, Kayla will interview Julie Demoff-Larson, the creator of "Small Prestivus," a two-day literary festival being held in Griffith, Indiana on August 1st and 2nd, bringing in writers from all over the region and from across the country. Adam McHenry Nicholson will be calling in to share the latest about Sala, a professional association for creatives. Last, but not least, call-ins are encouraged in the second half of the show..ask a question, tell us about your latest project or event etc., share some of your literary goodness ..

Julie Demoff-Larson is one of the founding editors and currently the Managing Editor at Blotterature Literary Magazine. She is the chief organizer and curator of “Small Prestivus,” a two-day annual literary festival aimed at promoting the diversity of small presses and the writers they represent. Julie has a B.A. in English Literature from Purdue University. Her dedication to the writing community is second only to family and friends. Her short stories have been published in Mangrove, Ricochet, Epiphany Magazine and in Good Morning, Justice an anthology from Brine Books Publishing.

Adam McHenry Nicholson is an apostate academic who sometimes makes noises about being some kind of writer or artist or something, but good luck finding much evidence of it. He is currently editing an anthology of strongly visual multimodal narratives for Twelve Winters Press (https://twelvewinters.submittable.com/submit/38543), to which you should submit your work, and is founder and executive director of the nascent Sala Creative Association (igg.me/at/sala), to which you should sumibt your money.
