Sunday on the Front Stoop, renewable energy, who defines it?

    in Energy

There is a lot of buzz about renewable energy these days.  Some of it is about what re/energy advocates over the past 30 years have defined it as ie,  solar, wind, water and biofuels from cellulose.  Yet we are also hearing some 'official' definitions of renewable energy that expande the types of energy to ones that have not been traditionally considered renewable.  The energies that are most often included in this way are nuclear energy and natural gas.  I guess they finally gave up on 'clean coal'...  Anyway, what are the implications of this?  Are they economic?  Are we being invited to go in a circle again and end up with the same players and the same problems...  We welcome your input.
