Marcy Borders, was photographed covered in dust after fleeing the World Trade Center. As one of the towers collapsed, she took refuge in a nearby office building, where AFP photographer Stan Honda took a haunting photo of her completely covered in a thick layer of ash, which earned her the title "The Dust Lady."

    Remembering Wes Craven

    in Entertainment

Writer/director horror master Wes Craven spoke with host Robin Milling for the film The Serpent and The Rainbow starring Bill Pullman. In this interview from 1988, Wes revealed to Robin his inspiration for Freddie Kruger, the star of Nightmare on Elm Street and how some of his films came straight out of his personal nightmares.

He tells Robin about his own intrigue, fears and curiosities about death and the macabre, 'there's an age old fascination with death. It's one of those truly unsolved mysteries. Since it's something we're all moving towards and know in the back of our minds that we're going to face; I think that even at the level of a child you're fascinated by it and the ultimate finality of it. When you see a scary movie you're somehow relieved that you survived it. But ultimately it brings everybody down; even the most powerful and the weakest.'

Surprisingly, Wes told Robin he would like to do a comedy, even a love story. No matter the genre, Wes will live on in the movies; always to be remembered for his uncanny abilities to frighten the old and the very young.

    Remembering a Revolutionary- Dedon Kamathi

    in Culture

    Listener Call In: (347) 857-4514

WE LOST A GIANT. Global Peeks sends our condolences to the family and comrades in struggle of Brother Dedon Kimathi. Tonight we celebrate the life, struggle, contribution & legacy of Dedon Kamathi (1950-2015), host of “Freedom Now” on Pacifica Radio and an organizer & member of The All African Peoples’ Revolutionary Party. We will air an interview I did with Bro. Dedon on my first Blogtalk Radio Broadcast of The Sankofa Experience on Africa & the African Diaspora.

I was blessed to have known Brother Dedon who was consistent in the principles of moving forward for our people. It wasn’t until I went through my personal files that I realized the tremendous amount of interview hours I had with my brother over time.

Brother Dedon was a staunch, uncompromising Pan Africanist.

This was a serious mind among us that walked his talk and never shied away from the battle to realize freedom, justice and equality. He was a foremost voice in standing our ground on principled positions such as condemning the President Obama’s administration partnership with NATO-North Atlantic Treaty Organization—or as some call it the North Atlantic TERROR ORGANIZATION—murder of Muammar Gadhafi & 50,000 Libyans in 2011. He stood against certain artists like Stevie Wonder & others honoring invitations to perform in the illegal & Zionist State of Israel, sponsored by the Israeli Defense Force that is the enforcer of terror against the Palestinian people and there was much more.
