Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1076

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Tim Fisher, a returning NAASCA family member who lives in the Las Vegas area and runs Juvenile Justice Now. Tim, a child abuse survivor, will be with us tonight to describe his experience, strength and hope. Tim was seven years old when he met his predator, a neighbor, teaching Sunday school at the Baptist church. Now Steve Friess has written an article about Tim's important work: One Survivor's Crusade Reveals a Plague of Errors in Nation's Sex Offender Registries. The subtitle: "Estimates of the number of entries with crucial mistakes run into the tens of thousands. One man—and pretty much only one man—is trying to fix them." Tim has told us in the past, "By the time I had reached my 14th birthday I had been sexually molested approximately 350 times over the course of seven years." He continues, "It took four years for me to become strong enough to come forward." Eventually he went to the Anaheim police and reported his abuse and name his predator. From start to finish it took a year almost to the day for him to be convicted. Eventually he took a plea of guilty to 49 counts of child molestation, lewd conducts involving a minor and with the use of force. Sadly although he was sentenced to 2 to 12 years he was released after serving just nine months. "I’m here to remind you that the abuse never stops for the victim," Tim says, "I encourage anyone who has been sexually abused to make a report even if it happened when you were a child." In the recently published article, Steve accompanies Tim to the home of his molester, a registered sex offender.

Dot-Com Anniversary Contest and Interview with Bill Rancic #InternetOfficial

    in Business

It's hard to believe, but .com is all grown up. The domain we all know and love turns 30 this year. With roughly 116.5 million domains ending in ".com" - the most of any domain and more than all of the 25 next largest registries combined - .com's dominance is unquestionable. During the past 30 years, the Amazon isn't just the world's largest river, tweeting isn't just for the birds and "yahoo" means more than impending excitement.

To celebrate this monumental milestone of the World Wide Web's most recognized domain-and all the brilliant, online businesses that have flourished because of it-Verisign, the global leader in domain names and internet security, is helping the next generation of entrepreneurs get their business ideas off the ground with a chance to win up to $35,000 by sharing their best and brightest .com name.

I had the amazing opportunity to interview Bill Rancic, TV personality, businessman and entrepreneur and the first winner of Donald Trump's show, "The Apprentice".

Bill is not only an entrepreneur, he's an accomplished author, speaker, restaurateur, husband and father. We chatted about the dot.com anniversary, his role as one of 4 expert judges in the contest, along with some sound advice from this down-to-earth man!

Registering a creative, memorable and keyword-rich .com domain name through one of Verisign's registrars and entering it in the #InternetOfficial contest by April 30, 2015 could land a budding entrepreneur $35,000.

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 928

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Tim Fisher, a returning NAASCA family member who lives in the Las Vegas area and runs Juvenile Justice Now. More than 100,000 sex offenders are in violation of state and federal laws by not registering their current addresses with local law enforcement. The Juvenile Justice Now web site operates as a public service, and uses the Internet by way of displaying pictures of people who are currently not in compliance with current sex offender registration laws. Users are encouraged to keep the available information on registered offenders current and up to date. Tim cautions that each state has it's own information collection and privacy / confidentiality policies, as well as policies / disclaimers / terms and conditions for access to information contained in state sex offender web sites (review individual state conditions of use). Megan's Law, signed into law in 1996 by President Clinton, allows states discretion in establishing criteria for disclosure, but compels them to make private and personal information on registered sex offenders available to the public. Tim's current project is “Find the Offender,” where he's researching the states registries' non-compliant offenders and attempting to locate them in compliance in other states. With this project he hopes to encourage communication between state agencies. "I started the project as a way to mark the 30th anniversary of my abuser's arrest," Tim writes. "At first the goal was to find 30 offenders in 30 days. I will take a count of how many records I have submitted for each state for their verification of my research as we get closer to the air date. I believe I have found more than 100."

The Ugly Daughter - Thriving Despite Adversity

    in Business

An inspirational story of overcoming adversity that you won't want to miss!  Join us this Friday, July 11th at 1:30pm PT, as we welcome Julia Legian - who will share her moving story.

Julia was born in 1972 in South Vietnam. Truth be told, nobody in her family really knows her real date of birth as during war time people had other priorities than birth registries.  Julia endured a horrific and extremely tough childhood. This is the subject of her memoir The Ugly Daughter. In the early 80's, her family managed to escape Vietnam as one of the “boat people” and after a few years in a refugee camp in Malaysia, they immigrated to Australia, where Julia lives to this day.

In the mid-90’s, Julia found herself a single mom struggling to pay bills, about a 100 thousand in debt and almost homeless. She met her husband in 2001, became a successful property investor and started her own real estate business. She retired in 2013 to focus on writing. She recently published her memoir and has become an internationally bestselling author.

When you say, there should be a law - there comes Gypsy's Law!

    in Family

Years ago, there was a dream to have a domestic violence registry and the National Domestic Violence Registry was born (see https://www.facebook.com/NationalDVRegistry and http://domesticviolencedatabase.net/).  So far it is being pieced together and has come a long ways, but now it comes to the next level to mandate it just like the Sex Offender Registry, especially for repeat domestic violence offenders.

Amanda Forsythe is on the journey of presentation presentation in OH and working to have laws mandated in her own state of TN.  She will share with it why Gypsy's Law is being pushed now, and how YOU too can help.
