LIVE:Chesapeake Bay Reggae Fest Pre show- International Stars Tuff Lion & IBA

    in Music

A veteran of countless live performances and tours as a bandleader or sideman over his long career, Tuff Lion’s recording presence has “finally” begun to blossom with the access that home recording studio systems afford the masses today. Undeniably, he has risen from near obscurity to many V. I. producers’ “A” list. You may also see his name credited on some recordings to performances on other instruments such as, bass, keyboards, organ, drums and some backing vocals. This is indicative of the depth of his musical scope. “I-Man play instruments for the sake of music, not the other way” says the graciously humble Tuff Lion, noting that he “really only practices” on the guitar.
Iba (pronounced: 'Eye-bah') was born Charles "Chucky" Encarnacion on May 7, 1970 on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. As the son of a musician, Iba was indoctrinated into music at a very young age and his passion for knowledge led him to embrace the teachings of Rastafari in his formative years. Over time and thru much diligence, Iba became lead singer of St. Croix's Front Line Reggae Band and quickly became one of St. Croix's celebrated singers.   In 1995, life and mother nature (Hurricane Marilyn) intervened in this burgeoning career and Iba relocated to Connecticut, USA. In Connecticut, Iba kept at his passion by fronting the Survivor's Reggae Band for the next 3 years.

Live Stage:The best Reggae Music on the #1 Reggae Station Crs Radio

    in Music

Background: Reggae - Around 1960, in the slums of Kingston Jamaica, where the local bands were playing a musical mixture of American R&B, Caribbean, and pan-African sounds, drummers began to emphasize the afterbeat, the 2nd and 4th beats (4/4 time) in unison with the piano and guitar while the bass played walking quarter notes. The musicians called the sound "Upside-down R&B". It soon became known as "Ska". As time passed Ska slowed the beat, lost it's brass sound and morphed into "Rocksteady", performed with fewer musicians and using more harmony vocals. Around 1968 the influences of Rastafari and Africanism along with political and social unrest in Jamaica gave birth to "Reggae", with a slower, stripped-down, less "Pop-like" sound often with accents added on the 3rd beat. Today the term "Reggae" applies broadly to all the Jamaican born music that contains the original afterbeat rhythm.
