Sel Kerans discusses his new book, Leading the Dance: Living well with Parkinson’s Disease, and his own journey on the road to recovery in an open, conversational expose of a five year journey with Parkinson’s disease and the experiences that have inspired the writing of a book that may be helpful, motivational and encouraging for others, especially those newly diagnosed with the condition.

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  Last week we discussed the core concepts of the TC and the methods used to apply, implement, and experience those concepts. This would be described as the "macro" aspects of the TC. What we will delve into this week are the "micro" aspects of the TC, the daily mental and physical "exercises" built into the structure all aimed at developing, and or improving the two behavioral necessities required to utlimately have a successful recovery experience.

TREATMENT and RECOVERY: The Therapeutic Community (TC) Part 1 of 2

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  The everyday goals of the TC are compassion, achievement, discipline, and accountability / responsibility achieved through community life based on a social learning model, and created in formal and informal settings. The beliefs that are essential to the TC are that a person can change, and that a group can foster this change.  The individual must at some point take responsibility, but going through the motions is ok as a stopgap measure until the beliefs are integrated. We'll discuss the five core concepts of the TC and the many tools used to facilitate them.

They all create or cause feelings. Triggers have come............and gone?!? What happens if there's a relapse? How do we respond?

How to incorporate the recovery steps into your yoga practice.

    in Self Help

In my new books, Building Blocks of Recovery, the Deluxe Edition and the 2nd Edition, I break down the levels of healing with you.  This week we will be discussing the "I AM" level and why having yoga in your recovery practice is so important.

I have never known my recovery without yoga and the practice has helped me to learn more about integrity and honesty than I could have learned on my own.  I learned how to be in community and yet make sure my needs were met.  It was this visceral experience that helped me to become the woman I am today. "A simple woman who works a simple program".

I would love to hear from you.  Please email your questions to me at buildingblocksofrecovery@gmail.com or give me a call at 3:30 PM PST.  It will be an honor to be of service to you and answer your questions!
