    Let's Talk Too! Author Yani

    in Books

    I'm your host

    Author Sharnel

    Author Yani,

She wrote her first novel when she was fifteen years old while attending University City High-School. What started out as just a short story to help her cope with the accidental and devastating murder of a friend, turned into a full length, 893 handwritten paged novel after being encouraged to continue writing more by her peers. Years later, A Thug’s Redemption along with its two sequels, became Amazon Best Sellers and featured in Yo! Raps Magazine. Yani had previously been known for her writing through her edgy poetry, which granted her an invitation to the Tri-State’s number 1 Hip-Hop and R&B radio station, Power 99FM, to recite her popular poem “Why Tyrone Can’t Read” in 2001. Since then, Yani has attended open mic nights, reciting her poetry throughout Philadelphia. Yani has been featured on numerous blogs and has made guest appearances on various blog-talk radio shows. She was also a featured author at the 2013 National Black Book Festival in Houston, Texas. Yani still resides in Philadelphia with her three children and is working on her sixth novel.

Clio Express: A Conversation with James & Jean Jones

    in Lifestyle

In 1953, seven years before the formal launch of the sit-in movement, students from Morgan State College were lining up daily at the lunch counter of Read’s drugstore. There, some manager or anxious waitress would recite the Maryland trespassing statute and ask them to leave.   That was the beginning of the "modern student civil disobedience through sit-ins.  However, in 1947, several hundred Morgan State students demonstrated in Annapolis for equitable funding from the state. In 1948, Morgan students began to picket performances at Baltimore’s Ford’s Theatre, where black patrons were compelled to use a rear staircase and sit in the second balcony.     Ford’s Theatre was desegregated in 1952 after years of relentless picketing. Additionally, thirty-seven Read’s drugstores opened their lunch counters to blacks in 1955. Four years later, the protesters forced the desegregation of the chain of Arundel ice cream shops. And, the die was caste for the Civil Rights contributions of Morgan State students which brought James and Jean Jones together in their personal involvement in the movement.    James and Jean were childhood neighbors who metriculated through the educational systems together and eventually built a family and life together.  A great look at what happens in the trenches and the lives of civil rights warriors.

The word of the Lord (də bar-Yahweh) \ A palavra do Senhor (ḏə-ḇar-Yahweh)

    in Religion

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. Genesis 15: 1

The word of the Lord is a widely used term in the scriptures of both Testaments, but it has been poorly assimilated by the current generation of Christians who have been conditioned by a religious heritage to a strictly rhetorical and literary understanding l about it.
More than biblical scripture, the "Word of God" should be understood as the foundation of all of them and the essence of true walk with and in Christ.
More than to read and recite the "Word", the follower of Christ should search it and fully submit to trust her. Let's talk about it.

    in Politics Conservative

My thanks to Kel for hosting at the last minute.  I have been given the choice of surgery now, to remove a nodule from my vocal chord or 4 weeks of complete vocal rest. (which, if it does not cause the vocal nodule to show significant improvement will be followed by two more weeks of complete vocal rest followed by weeks/months of rehabilitation. Any offers of guest hosting appreciated - as are prayers. If nothing else, I may send a shout out to twitter asking for musicians to lend me their songs and a call in biography.  argh.

Doing my best to help the Lord set the brushfires of freedom in the hearts of men and to restore America, God willing, to the beacon of freedom she was meant to be.

Is Bible Study All About Learning Something New?

    in Religion

I have experienced people becoming bored because they are hearing the same scriptures being quoted to them when they are being taught.  However, these people don't get bored when they eat the same food they like, recite the same words that are a part of Jewish or church liturgy and listen to the same lyrics of their favorite music.

Why does God state the following if Bible study is only fascinating if we are only learning something new?

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me," (Isaiah 46:9 KJV)

"Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee." (Deuteronomy 32:7 KJV)

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." (Psalm 1:1-2 KJV)

"The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." (Psalm 19:9-10 KJV)

"How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Psalm 119:103)
