As Child Mental Health Counselors and Play Therapists we have heard many parents wonder about their child lying. It’s concerning, disappointing, sometimes embarrassing and even infuriating when our children lie. With over 25 combined years in children’s mental health we have some ideas we want to share with you about why children lie and what you can do when they do. We also will be talking about some things you can do to minimize this behavior in your kids. In this show will cover several strategies that can help you help your children to become Freakishly Well Behaved kids. This episode will focus on lying.
Author, Professor, Mental Health Counselor, Play Therapist, International Speaker, & Mom-- Dr. Mullen has learned from the thousands of children she has worked with insights and actions necessary for parenting that will lead to the behavior and attitude changes you are looking for with your children.
If you are willing to learn, listen, grow, and work hard at this, your results will be nothing short of miraculous! You can have Freakishly Well Behaved Kids too! Remember to check out NAUGHTY NO MORE an activity book to help kids make better decisions. When kids feel good, they behave that way!
I recently spoke with Crystal Victoria who wrote From the Streets to the Skies No Limits - Diary of a Boss Lady to tell her story of straying from the straight and narrow at tender age of 14 and finding herself incarcerated several times totaling 19 months behind bars.Crystal was driving at age 14, had access to her mother's car after she dropped her off at work and other young people were attracted to Crystal for this independence and she enjoyed the popularity. Crystal's mother worked from 4pm to midnight during the week so Crystal had much freedom. Because her grades were good, her mother did not question her activities often. Having so much freedom resulting in Crystal regarding her mother as an equal who could not correct her. With this attitude, a confrontation resulted in the police being called and Crystal being transferred to juvenile detention. She was charged with Marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia, and tobacco as a minor at age 14.
In the state of Texas, a teen can get a driving license at age 15, but the drug charge that Crystal caused her license to be automatically suspended. But this did not stop Crystal from driving the family car. She drove her car with a suspended license; at 17, she charged as an adult for driving with a suspended license.
Crystal describes herself as angry and mean during her teen years and this attitude resulted in her being incarcerated. She states that she was attracted to the wild side. She had several probations that compounded resulting in her spending 19 months in prison; her last incarceration was in 2009. Crystal states that she learned her manipulative ways from watching “I Love Lucy”. Lucille Ball was always “getting away” with things and that behavior influenced Crystal to emulate it.
There is a need for discipline early in a child's life to ensure good communication in teens.

Radio hosts, Trinitee Stokes, Yanellie Ireland & Kyle Villalovos interview Special guest actor, Stuart Allan and put the highlight on Nya-Jolie Walters.
When Kit Strauss couldn’t find educational materials that she felt would help her children learn a second language, the suburban Maryland mom-and lawyer-turned-entrepreneur created better products herself. And she got her children involved – with the aim of appealing to students as well as their parents.
“Kids like watching other kids,” says Kit, and “my children and their friends were my guide as what was fun and humorous and what kids would enjoy as we created the videos and games.”
The result has been a successful, award-winning language learning program called “Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids” (FLK).
We will be interviewing a Dana Elementary student, and we will listen to some music.
