Tune in Sunday May 19th at 5:30 p.m. as MHH Radio hosts Ray Lawrence Jr.
Singer, songwriter, independent recording artist and touring musician. These are just a few things that describe Ray Lawrence Jr. Music has been a major part of Ray's life and music is the one thing thing that has helped him to survive. Ray has many experiences that give him the ideas for the songs he writes and he thinks about those things he went through as he performs his songs. Even the cover songs he does of other artists are songs that have meaning for him. A song must mean something to sing it right so feeling can be put into it and this is what you will hear and feel when Ray Lawrence Jr. performs a song. The idea is to help you heal through the music and for you to have a song to help you feel better.
Ray Lawrence Jr was born the oldest of 8 children in Chicago, IL. July 4, 1963 and was raised in Southern California, 3 hours south of Bakersfield. Ray began his music career at age 5, singing in school plays and later learned to play guitar and learnied other instruments. Having a father from Texas who was a lover of country music and bluegrass and being raised in what was back in the 60's, a hot bed for country music, Ray was in a good position to be influenced by artists like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Buck Owens, Lester flat and Earl Scruggs, The Dillards, AKA The Darlings when they were on The Andy Griffith Show, Hee Haw, The Beverley Hillbillies, The Johnny Cash Show and The Glen Campbell show. Merle Haggard was also a huge musical influence. Read More at http://raylawrencejr.fourfour.com/home

We’ll hear about his 50th Anniversary Anthology album of the Paul Winter Sextet, and his journey as a musician and vegetarian. Look for the companion cookbook to Season Three: Jazzy Vegetarian Classics: Vegan Twists on American Family Favorites. (You can pre-order it now!) Paul Winter’s musical realm has long embraced the traditions of the world’s cultures, as well as the extraordinary voices of what he refers to as “the greater symphony of the Earth.” His concert tours and recording expeditions have taken him to thirty-seven countries and to wilderness areas on six continents. Winter’s forming of Living Music Records in 1980 has created the recording forum for the exploration of his musical-ecological sound-vision, enabling musicians to record special Earth Music and reach the human community with music of the wider earth community. The timeless music of Living Music Records is usually recorded in Winter’s barn-studio surrounded by protected woodland, sometimes in natural acoustic spaces such as the Grand Canyon, and frequently beneath the vaults of the Cathedral of St John the Divine, the world’s largest Gothic cathedral where the Consort are artists-in-residence. Paul Winter’s Winter and Summer Solstice Celebrations, and Earth Mass performed each Feast of St Francis, are among the most popular seasonal events in New York City.
