NFL Week 2: Reviewing big Arizona Cardinals win over Chicago Bears

    in Football

The Arizona Cardinals are now 2-0 after having demolished the Chicago Bears 48-23 on Sunday at Soldier Field. What was the good and what was the not so good? Well, there obviously wasn't that much to complain about, as the Cardinals rolled to a 25-point win, but thereare some things to wonder about. Hosts Jess Root and Seth Cox discuss the biggest stories coming out of the game.

Chris Johnson had a steady 72 yards and it was exactly the type of performance the Cardinals needed. Combined with David Johnson, this duo looks like a better version of Rashard Mendenhall and Andre Ellington, only this time we should be fine with the limited touches for Johnson.

Seth points out Michael Floyd showed some bad body language when he wasn't getting the ball thrown his way.

What about Bobby Massie? The tackle was reinstated and the team kept all their linemen, choosing instead to cut Kerwynn Williams.

Have a listen to the show and continue the conversation over at Revenge of the Birds.

    Running back commodity fallacy

    in Sports

Mind of Mansion Podcast Episode 120: Matt Kelley @fantasy_mansion is surprised to receive support from an ally in the fight against the running-backs-are-commodities narrative-war of our time.

It's en vogue right now to marginalize the value of the running back position and describe them as interchangeable and expendable commodities.

Dallas and Philadelphia have vastly different running back valuation philosophies.

Just because two running backs scored the same number of fantasy points does not imply they are interchangeable.

In 2008, Jamaal Charles, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, and Matt Forte were drafted after Rahshard Mendenhall, Felix Jones, Johnathan Stewart and Darren McFadden.

Most first-round bust running backs were injured early in their careers.

Early round running backs are generally highly quality players than late-round and undrafted running backs with much higher success rates and are not interchangeable.

Shane Vereen and LeGarrette Blount were uniquely productive role players and intergral parts of New England's Super Bowl victory.

    100,000-dollar bet on DeVante Parker

    in Sports

Mind of Mansion Podcast Episode 113: Matt Kelley @fantasy_mansion believes the idea that Jarvis Landry, a 5-11 wide receiver completely devoid of athleticism could be a productive outside receiver for years to come stretches to the outer bounds of plausibility.

If the Dolphins draft a WR, they should hedge their bets on Landry and target a prototypical flanker such as Dorial Green-Beckham or Jaelen Strong.

It would be impossible to decide between Nelson Agholor and Tre McBride if losing the bet meant a lifetime of indentured servitude.

Some of the callenged faced when attempting to incorporate subjective metrics into a prosect evaluation methodology include: time contraints, stylistic bias, confirmation bias, and survivorship bias.

Don't worry, the NFL Draft tout machine will soon be inundating us with Rashard Higgins analysis.

Two Greek Organizations Steal the Show at FMU’s 2015 Homecoming Night

    in Education

By Davina Lewis, Jamari Leak, and Rashard Jones

The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta and the gentlemen of Phi Beta Sigma emerged  as winners of the 2015 Greek Step Show and Concert competition after thrilling performances. The event, held at the university’s clock tower center, was the highlight of weeklong Homecoming activities that took place from February 8-15, 2015.

The four-hour competition was attended by alumni, staff, students, and friends who filled all 400 seats on a chilly night. Food vendors provided burgers, hot dogs, fries, and most importantly hot chocolate to keep the crowd warm.

The audience watched attentively as various Greek organizations took to the floor and stepped their best in line with the disc jockey’s musical mix. The groups were judged by several FMU Greek alumni. The two winning organizations not only earned bragging rights for the whole year but they also received $1,000 checks each and engraved trophies.

R&B singer August Alsina closed the show with a 45-minute musical thriller as the crowd cheered and roared with enthusiasm. FMU student Khalinah Walker, summed up the event: “Even though I’m freezing out here I’m glad that I came tonight. The show gets better each year, I Love August Alsina and all the Greeks did a good job.”

The staff members are already planning for next year’s show and students are anticipating the event as well to see  who will win the Greek Show and who will be the entertainer.
