The Human Agenda; Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity

    in Spirituality

THE HUMAN AGENDA: Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity with author Joe Wenke

Despite the progress in the movement toward marriage equality, the LGBTQI community continues to face difficult, and often heartbreaking, odds. Gay and lesbian youth are four times more likely than their peers to attempt suicide. Nearly half of transgender teens have contemplated suicide and a quarter has made an attempt, according to The Trevor Project. Adoption equality and second-parent rights are still blocked in many states, and legislators in Oklahoma and Alabama have tried to introduce laws that make it legal to discriminate against gays and lesbians. Perhaps most disturbing of all, homicide rates for transgender women account for 45 percent of all hate murders, according to GLAAD.

Joe Wenke thinks there is a better way. By opening up discussions about our shared humanity and experiences, Wenke is getting people to talk with, not at, each other and leaving the rancor and divisiveness behind, beginning with his book THE HUMAN AGENDA: Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity. For this collection of frank conversations about growing up, coming out, finding your identity, family, marriage, parenting, careers and so much more.

The 50th anniversary of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

    in Politics

"The Voting Rights Act, the culmination of so much blood and sweat and tears, the product of so much sacrifice in the face of wanton violence, stands weakened, its future subject to partisan rancor, How can that be?If we want to honor this day, let these hundred go back to Washington, and gather four hundred more, and together, pledge to make it their mission to restore the law this year,” President Obama

Republicans now in control of Congress...let the gridlock in DC begin.

    in Current Events

As your host here at SevDeadSerious, I notice that the Republicans now have control of both houses of Congress but the White House is still controlled by the African-American chap and that means, "same shit, different day."  In other words despite the election, no progress towards solving any of our problems because none of the idiots on capital hill has enough brains (or common sense) to get anything done.  Nothing but partisan bickering and prepping for the next election in 2016...its nice to see as much as things change, they remain the same.  Thank God for political stupidity; its what keeps this show going.  On the positive side...more legal recreational marijuana.

Jewish Roots - " The Synagogue In Christian Society Part 2 "

    in Spirituality

"The Synagogue in Christian Society: Part 2"

Since the days of Christ and the apostles, Church-vs-Synagogue relations have been anything but good. What started as a movement within Judaism became a separate movement all its own. The hostility was compounded by the Synagogue's reaction to what it called a heretical sect. The Church responded with over-reaction. The rancor increased over centuries, and as the Church became mainstream in formerly pagan society, the Old Testament "People of the Book" were increasingly marginalized and persecuted. In the midst of all this, and DESPITE it all, many Jews came to believe that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the promised Messiah. This Thursday we look at it all more closely in the 2nd of a 5-part series. Tune in and take notes! Your host, Rev. Rick Anderson on "Jewish Roots", each Thursday at 9:30 pm EDT. Listen LIVE at  www.blogtalkradio.com/fougcrew or through Twitter, LinkedIn, GooglePlus and facebook.com/fougcrew. To call with a comment or question: 347-324-5750.

CURRENT> AUTHOR TOM UFERT TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW BOOK

    in News

Join us on Tuesday night as we chat with

AUTHOR TOM UFERT about his new book.

An excerpt below from Author Tom Ufert's new book, Political Craps -

Compromise, Rancor, Affluence, Policy, and Stupidity

Over the last several years my faith and trust in America’s elected officials has been seriously shaken to the core. As a life-long student of politics and at one time a highly involved political activist, it has always been my firm belief that the primary responsibility of a good citizen was to be an informed participant in the political process of our nation.

While reading Political C.R.A.P.S. the reader should keep two primary thoughts in mind. First, are you as informed and educated as you should be to make a wise decision with your vote that will directly impact every aspect of your life? Second, if you’re not, then ask why!

    Christmas 2013 by Jerry Pippin

    in Politics

Jerry Pippin hosted our special presenation of Christmas 2013.
He looks at Christmas past of his youth in 1940s and 50s.
And a not so Merry Christmas for 40 million Target customers that loss their credit card information and ATM pin numbers.

A Christmas Poem by Maya Angelou

Thunder rumbles in the mountain passes
And lightning rattles the eaves of our houses.
Flood waters await us in our avenues.
Snow falls upon snow, falls upon snow to avalanche
    Over unprotected villages.
The sky slips low and grey and threatening.
    We question ourselves.
What have we done to so affront nature?
    We worry God.
Are you there? Are you there really?
Does the covenant you made with us still hold?
Into this climate of fear and apprehension, Christmas enters,
Streaming lights of joy, ringing bells of hope
And singing carols of forgiveness high up in the bright air.The world is encouraged to come away from rancor,Come the way of friendship...

    Merry Christmas from Jerry Pippin
