Sandy Sieber,"Phacops Rana and Other Pennsylvania Symbols"

    in Books

Sandy Sieber first became intrigued with her state when teaching own children about its history. Since then she has passionately searched out fascinating stories via the Internet, museums, used bookstores, and historical sites.

Her favorite Pennsylvania place is the Jimmy Stewart Museum. When walking to the museum, she will never forget the experience of hearing Jimmy's voice tell her when to cross the street. Of all the Pennsylvania birds, the quail tops her list. She and her children have raised and released quail into the wild. The Lady Slipper is her most loved Pennsylvania wild flower. She and her husband own a field of Lady Slippers! While writing Phacops Rana, she was thrilled to find the Pennsylvania State Electric Train at the Amtrak train station in Harrisburg, a 45-minute drive from her home.

Living a Richer Life- Father Matters Interview-How To Heal Broken Relationships

    in Dads and Family

March 20, 2014 - LIVING A RICHER LIFE: with Vance Simms, Founder/Executive Director of Father Matters, Inc. and his wife Rana. Authors of “Brokenness Produces Pearls”

THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: If you’ve ever heard the words, “Just wait until your father gets home,” you probably grew up in a family where you recall those moments when your dad walked through the door, home from work. Fathers are frequently viewed as the go-to parent for discipline and sound advice while mothers are the go-to parent for nurturing, sympathy and comfort. However, fathers matter more than just being the person in the family who may rule with an iron fist. In many of today’s families, Dads are not in the home at all and, too often, due to broken relationships. How can we begin the healing process when it is possible and enrich all the lives involved?

Vance, the Founder/Executive Director of Father Matters, “Fathers Mentoring Fathers”, commits himself to building stronger, healthier communities by supporting, encouraging, and enlightening today’s fathers and families. Rana serves her local community in many fashions, through her work, supporting young children and their families, and through volunteerism in church and school. Vance and Rana reside in Phoenix, AZ with their five young children.

Christine Bader- The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist on EGG Live!

    in Business

This on demand audio series is a part of the Executive Girlfriends Group Vignette Series. Chicke Fitzgerald interviews Christine Bader. The original live interview was 05/09/14.

There is an invisible army of people deep inside the world’s biggest and best-known companies, pushing for safer and more responsible practices. They are trying to prevent the next Rana Plaza factory collapse, the next Deepwater Horizon explosion, the next Foxconn labor abuses. Obviously, they don’t always succeed.

Christine Bader was one of those people. She loved BP and then-CEO John Browne’s lofty rhetoric on climate change and human rights.

Bader’s story of working deep inside the belly of the beast is unique in its details, but not in its themes: of feeling like an outsider both inside the company (accused of being a closet activist) and out (assumed to be a corporate shill); of getting mixed messages from senior management; of being frustrated with corporate life but committed to pushing for change from within.

Christine Bader is also a Visiting Scholar and Lecturer at Columbia University, where she co-teaches a course on Human Rights and Business, and a Human Rights Advisor to BSR.
