Think about what it would be like on your job, if you had been given a huge project to do, did it and did it well, and then thought you’d have some time to sit back and relax, enjoying your accomplishments and taking time to appreciate your past efforts. But just as you sit down, cup in hand, to talk with your friends and relax, your boss comes along and tells you there is another huge project you must now undertake, no matter how tired or deserving of rest you are! That’s what has happened for the people we’re celebrating on our September 5 show, Grandparents, who have already done the huge job of raising their children, now stepping up to their second huge job, that of raising their children’s children! Elaine Williams calls this Sacred Work; and we’re going to find out, together, why she calls it that. Whether you’re a grandchild, a parent, or a grandparent or great-grandparent, this show is relevant to your life! Come, join us!

Parents of today and parents of yesteryear, have always loved their children and wanted the best for them. It might not seem that way, when we look back at some of the parenting practices of our parents and grandparents. While some parenting approaches remain the same others are very different today and have changed with the times. Do you parent in the same way your parents and grandparents parented you? In this interview, we’ll explore how parenting has changed by looking at the things your parents & grandparents said about raising kids.
Perhaps as a child you were told:
Behave or you’ll get a clip around there ear (or worse)
Kids should be seen and not heard; speak only when spoken too
Eat everything on your plate – there’s starving children in Africa
If you break a mirror you’ll have seven years of bad luck
To be quiet – what will the neighbours think, or that
You should turn the other cheek?
Taking a closer look at some of the parenting techniques of past generations we seek to understand more about their impact on children and the intentions that underpinned this parenting. Dr Robyn Mills interviews Dr Rosina McAlpine, creator of the Inspired Children Parenting Program, to see if these parenting approaches are still relevant today, and if not, how can we take the good intentions behind these practices and bring them into a new paradigm of modern parenting.

Raising The Roof Radio Netwerk - The voice of Paterson N.J.
Proudly presents Paterson's own,
Dr. Pinky Miller..
Pinky as we all know her is a former student of the real bullhorn and bat totting incon Joe Louis Clark from the 1989 movie Lean On Me..
Suffering the rough and tramatic childhood and the pit falls that was everyday living in the ghetto Pinky's life was normal until she stepped into Eastside High School and met Joe Clark.. The rest is history..!!!!!
Hear the story that brought the book Life After Lean On Me to reality from Pinky herself.. Along with I.B.Wise and Brent Nation....
From the mouth of Joe Clark:::::: You were born with two strikes against you 1) you are poor and 2) you are black. Don't strike out and as you can see, Pinky is still taking that advice!!!!!!!
It is past the time for talking, it is the time for acting!!!!!! The violence is growing at an alarming rate,
the bodies are piling up at an alarming rate, the memorials are seen all over town at an alarming rate, the ideas are plenty but the solutions are none... This is a trend that needs to stop now.....STOP THE VIOLENCE!!!!!!!!
