Dogs Deserve Better, a national and award-winning nonprofit organization, is a voice for chained and penned dogs. As the days become years, many of these dogs sit, lay, eat, and defecate within the same 10-foot radius. Chained by the neck, they exist without respect, love, exercise, social interaction, and sometimes even basic nourishment. They live as prisoners, yet long to be pets.
"Dogs Deserve Better has dogs we have rescued from chains or pens available for adoption at both our Good Newz Rehab Center in Smithfield, Virginia, and in foster homes nationwide. At any given time we may have as many as 50-75 dogs available for adoption, depending on our ability."
Tamira Thayne, Founder, joins us
Alabama state law prohibits any shelter from having a veterinarian on staff or operating their own clinic. We will speak to those involved in changing this law with a proposed bill. Amazingly, this bill is being opposed by the veterinary lobby who feel low cost spay/neuter clinics in the state will take money out of the pockets of veterinarians. Paul Cassarona, President of the Lee County Humane Society Board of Directors, and Bobbi Yeo, Executive Director of the Lee County Humane Society will discuss this.
Also joining us to further discuss the Dogs in the Box situation is Tamira Thayne, Mary Mooney, and Terry Hamm

For several months a cloud of controversey has been building around Olympic Animal Sanctuary in Forks, Washington that centers around at least 120 dogs being kept in a run down warehouse with no heat and reports of filthy conditions, lack of proper food, an executive director who refuses to allow anyone inside the warehouse, a small town refusing to press charges or serve a warrant and who is openely hostile to outsiders, protesters from outside the small town and outside the state, and people demanding the return of dogs they gave to this sanctuary for care.
Tamira Thayne and Robert Pregulman join us. Tamira is the CEO of Dogs Deserve Better and has been fighting for the return of Sonny, a dog that was placed by Dogs Deserve Better at Olympic Animal Sanctuary. Robert is a blogger for Seattle Dogspot who has been following this story closely. Other guests who have not yet been confirmed may include protesters and people involved in pending law suits. This show will be open to a limited number of callers from the public.
** Additional guests added: An interview with Maggie McDowell, a protester who was asaulted by Markwell, and Dawn Woody who was involved with the successful return of dogs from OAS

Red River Writers and Blog Talk Radio is honored to welcome bestselling NYTimes author RaeAnne Thayne. RaeAnne Thayne will do anything to tell a story. In 15 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, she rode along with a motorcycle gang, took a trip in a hot air balloon and even gave a hunky country music star her home phone number (it was for an interview -- honest!).When she wasn't working as a journalist, though, RaeAnne worked on her real love -- writing romance novels. She dreamed of publishing a book long before she ever thought it was possible. In fact, college friends used to spend hours when they should have been studying, trying to help her come up with a good pseudonym (none of which she actually ended up using, since she writes under her own name!).After graduating from college, she took a job as a reporter at a daily newspaper, then moved to news editor. It wasn't until she was home on maternity leave after the birth of her first child in 1990 that RaeAnne seriously tried her hand at fiction writing. She sold her first book in 1995 and quit her editor job two years later to write full-time.
I would also like to welcome author Patricia Briggs. Patricia is a NYTImes best selling author and her book that we are spotlighting today is Fair Game. One author that has reaped the benefits of this growing audience is #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs. In her novels, Briggs re-imagines modern-day cities as places where supernatural beings—like werewolves, vampires, and witches—live and prosper! Penguin Books is sending Patricia Briggs on a 10-city book tour to support the release of FAIR GAME .
