He worked his way through college, starting at Louisiana State University and then graduating at Northwestern State University in Louisiana with a B.S. degree in accounting in 1961. Well, Jerry Smith can say he DOES! He joins us today to share unbelievable odds! He was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, an incurable lung disease and told that I had six months to live. This diagnosis came after a life filled with tragedy, overcoming them, and ultimately finding happiness for the first time at age fifty-two. My life included my grandmother dying during childbirth, my mother born a deaf-mute and abandoned. Later she was raped, and I was born and abandoned. My Mother married,
Nutrition and the Mind/Body Approach to Healing Dr. John Mark received his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri, Kansas City. He continued his training in pediatric pulmonary medicine during his fellowship at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. Dr Mark, in 1999, went to the University of Arizona to complete the first fellowship in Pediatric Integrative Medicine funded by the National Institute of Health. He now is on the faculty at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford since July, 2005. Dr. Mark has been utilizing different complementary and alternative health care practices in his patients with chronic pulmonary illnesses such asthma and cystic fibrosis. He is interested in nutrition and the mind/body approach to healing, trying to minimize medication and emphasizes such things as exercise.
He frequently speaks on the topics of using integrative medicine in respiratory disorders and the use of herbal remedies in patient with chronic pulmonary problems. Since joining the faculty at Stanford, Dr. Mark has started an exercise program for patients with cystic fibrosis. He is the Pediatric Fellowship Program Director for the Pulmonary Division, Associate Director for the pediatric residency program and the Medical Director for the Case Management Departments as well as the new program for Complex Care Coordination at Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford University.

As owner and curator of Gallery Art, a full service fine art gallery located in Aventura, Ken Hendel has been assisting art lovers with their fine art needs for over 20 years. Although Mr. Hendel is a licensed auctioneer and appraiser, his favorite part of the business is buying art, which is evident by his massive inventory.
He is an active, supporting member of the community and is always willing to extend his heart and his hand to those in need. He is an annual donor and supporter of the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Diabetes Research Institute, the Kids vs. Cancer Organization and the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Mr. Hendel has been a Founders Board Member of Mount Sinai and currently serves as a member of the executive board of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.
