Tom Dowd: Time Management Manifesto (New Book)

    in Self Help

Time management is a disciplined mindset to be able to live in the moment while working toward the future. It is all mental—it’s an attitude.  Having control in your life is about commitment, routines, flexibility, adjustments, and planning.  We create our own self-limitations.  We say we’ll do tomorrow what we really want to do today.  Eliminate what’s holding you back.  “Time Management Manifesto” offers specific actions that will teach subscribers the following themes:

    •           Manage your time, don’t let it manage you

    •           Time management is required of all levels, in all positions

    •           The benefits of managing professional time effectively spill into your personal space

What if you could accomplish more in a forty-hour week then your current fifty, sixty, or seventy-hour work week? What if your success was simply a matter of working smarter, not harder?  Good time management and organizational skills are a must for successful professionals. You’ll be challenged to strengthen your commitments and habits relating to time management and organizational skills without being a slave to it.  You will find the power of routines and people, while learning how to effectively deal with “fire drills” that will reduce stress, increase success, and ensure that you sleep better at night knowing your life is in control.

HIPAA! HITECH! HELP!— Mobile Device Management (MDM) in Healthcare

    in Technology

The number of mobile devices in healthcare facilities is increasing rapidly, as is the diversity of mobile platforms, operating systems (OSes) and communication methods that need to be supported by these organizations. In fact, in remarks made at George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said that healthcare is being “transformed” by broadband, and called out wireless and mobile in particular.

For its part in this transformation, Genachowski said,

The FCC is pursuing a health strategy with three key components: promoting connectivity; fostering fast-paced innovation of wireless networks, medical devices and mobile apps; encouraging greater adoption of life-saving health technology; and ensuring that spectrum is optimally allocated and managed.”

So on the outside, infrastructure and promotion is progressing, but what does mobility in healthcare look like from the inside?

A recent poll of managed Healthcare providers by the Aberdeen Group found three clear expectations for mobile healthcare technology: stem the rising costs of healthcare processes, improve staff productivity, and decrease the entry erroneous data.

To understand where mobility is headed though, it would first help to remember the mistakes of the past.

Interop Radio: Women in Maker Management

    in Technology

This week we look to overcome technical issues and have as our guest Tenaya Hurst of Linino.org and Rogue Making.

Tenaya Hurst is a Maker.  With a degree from Indiana University in theatre, geology, and anthropology, she is self taught in microcontroller programming. March 16th 2013 she found out what an Arduino is and now she works for them, promoting the new Linino hardware allowing you to use any programming language to control the hardware, wirelessly. Tenaya enjoys teaching kids how to program, solder, and sew with electronics. Her goal is to inspire kids everywhere to try electrical engineering. Learn more in the Intel MakeHer report, Make:43 in a tell-all article by Dale Dougherty, and www.RogueMaking.com.

Join us for a show that will look at what it takes to be a woman "making it" in the maker community, how the special energy of the maker community has had an impact on her management ideas, and why the DIY spirit of "makers" might just be critical for the future success of your IT projects.

Interop 2015 will take place from April 27th through May 1st at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. More information and registration details are available online!

Marie A. Chandoha is president and CEO of Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. (CSIM), the investment advisor to Schwab Funds, Laudus Funds and Schwab ETFs™ and one of the largest money market and index fund providers in the industry. Prior to this prestigious (and powerful) role, Marie ran the global fixed-income business at Blackrock. Her degree in economics is from Harvard University.

We'll discuss everything from what it takes to the rise to the top of the finance world and what it takes to succeed in today's over-leveraged Debt World. In Marie's view, you can use the same common sense strategies for investing that she uses on her cattle ranch...

Interop Radio: Making It in Maker Management

    in Technology

IT is big. Really big. So big, in fact, that it encompasses systems from the very, very large to the rather tiny. It's those tiny systems that are the specialty of our guest this week, Tenaya Hurst of Linino.org and Rogue Making.

Note: Technical issues prevented Tenaya from being with us for today's show. Instead, we talked about the results of an Intel study reported in MakeHers Report: Engaging Girls and Women in Technology through Making, Creating, and Inventing. We will work on having Tenaya as a guest on a future episode.

Tenaya is a passionate "maker", creating wearable technology and teaching programming (along with a variety of other skills) to interested groups and individuals across North America.
