The 2016 Presidential Elections has become an unprecedented event in American History. The United States has changed dramatically: no longer is the "electoral college," "polls," and even debates- determine the policy of elections- it is the people. Clark, an expert in governmental affairs and social work, has researched the Constitution for many years and the democratic process of the past and the current state of affairs of today. In order to save our democracy, she asserts, it is up to the people to organize the elections so that the next President is truly representative of the people- and wins fair and square. On the table for today: many white progressives and other allies in Seattle found themselves challenged by the confrontational behavior of Marissa Janae Johnson and Mara Willaford, two #BlackLivesMatter organizers who disrupted Bernie Sanders' planned campaign rally on Medicaid and Social Security this past weekend. When resentment of the disruption turned to epithets and shouting down the women, the activists responded by pointing out the very white supremacy within white progressive circles they were challenging. Looking at the long-term impact of their actions, not long after they disrupted the event, the Sanders campaign posted a more detailed platform on racial justice. In Los Angeles, the in-the-works hiring of a national press secretary, #BlackLivesMatter activist Symone Sanders, meant that she introduced Sanders at his SoCal appearance and will handle press going forward.
