Gone with the Wind 75th Anniversary Party!

    in Movies

Movie Addict HQ celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Gone with the Wind, one of the most successful films of all time. Film historian James Colt Harrison and Classic Film Guide founder Diana Saenger plan to join the festivities. Plus, Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne has been invited to call in. Listeners will also hear a clip from Cammie King Conlon's interview about playing Rhett and Scarlett's doomed daughter, Bonnie Blue Butler.

Gone with the Wind, released in 1939, received 10 Oscars. It has been screened millions of times throughout the world. Fans of this beloved epic continue to celebrate the movie at various GWTW conventions. To honor this important anniversary, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has teamed up with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Fathom Events and The Harry Ransom Center for a multi-tiered celebration that includes a new Blu-ray release, screenings at over 600 theaters, an exhibit and new book on the making of the film, and a special screening of the movie on Turner Classic Movies. These activities are scheduled for the last part of September and early October.

The late Cammie King Conlon, author of Bonnie Blue Butler: A Gone with the Wind Memoir, visited Movie Addict HQ four years ago to discuss her delightful book, which is filled with fascinating inside information concerning what happened on and off the set, including what it was like to work with Clark Gable and director Victor Fleming. Movie fans should enjoy hearing about these experiences in the clip from her terrific interview.

CM Radio - Sept. 3, 2014 - Prairie Cat, Coyote, Shimmering Stars

    in Music

It's indie pop week for Canadian Musician Radio, and we're reaching from sea to sea for this one. From BC, we've got both Prairie Cat and Shimming Stars, and then from PEI, we've got Coyote. We'll speak with all three about their recent and upcoming releases and see where the similarities and differences lie as far as their approach to writing, performing, and building a career in music.

The brainchild of frontman and pricipal songwriter Cary Pratt, Prairie Cat is fresh off the release of Who Knows Where To Begin? The touring band features a few familiar faces from the west coast music community and we'll chat with Cary about his songs and how they come to life on the stage.

As for Shimmering Stars, they're even fresher off the release of their second and latest LP, Bedrooms of the Nation. The album integrates elements from across the pop, noise, punk, and experimental spectrums - The Pixies, Flipper, Yo La Tengo, Women, and Nirvana running head into The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, and 50s/60s AM radio.

Finally, the cats in Coyote have their first full-length dropping in the coming weeks, and in addition to the unique sound they've crafted, we'll speak about their adventures as a band thus far - which most recently included the theft and recovery of close to $10,000 worth of musical equipment.

    The Interview

    in Politics

Since  when does Hollywood care about offending anyone -- especially in a foreign country where people can't afford movie tickets and their leader is so ridiculous, no movie could portray him as any more far-fetched than he really is?
"Even worse (than pulling the theatrical release) is Sony's apparent decision not to distribute the movie digitally, which would carry no physical threat to consumers," said Paul Levinson, an author and media studies professor at Fordham University. "By not digitally distributing, Sony is not making use of one of the great advantages of the digital age -- safety from dangers in physically public places such as theaters. Rather than caving, Sony should have used this bad occasion to strengthen and expand its digital distribution."
Commentary: Sony's fear and 'The Interview' decision set terrible precedent By Tony Hicks San Jose Mercury News
