A Message Titled Positioning Yourself for a partial Blessing by Jarryd Raynes

    in Christianity

We have invited people to share their music with us, and the song that started this show was provided to us from the United Kingdom.  Yes, God is moving in the UK!  Thanks so much for sharing this song that you wrote and sang.  We have put out the invitation for preachers, and teachers of the Bible to share something they have on their heart for our audiance.  We were contacted by Bro. Jarryd Raynes who is a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) and the President and Founder of Upper Room Crusades (URC), an evangelistically minded organization. URC's desire is to see the masses come to know the truth of Jesus Christ and experience the life changing power of the Holy Ghost, through community outreach initiatives, as well as, revival type crusades.  The web site for URC is  www.upperroomcrusades.org.   Bro Jarryd is married and resides in Texas City, Texas with his newborn son, Kingston. For more information you can contact Bro. Jarryd on Facebook at www.facebook.com/jarryd.raynes

As with all of our shows we will open up the show at the end for comments and/or questions.

  • How to Become an Incomparable Expert (Step-By-Step How-To)

    in Business

The whole idea of having a “Unique Selling Proposition” (USP) as a service provider is quite exciting… until you actually try to create one. Technically speaking, creating a USP is actually pretty simple. Having that creation actually resonate with the marketplace, however, is much more difficult. Just because you’re the only photographer that takes wedding pictures while hopping on your left foot just isn’t going to bring the clients running now is it?

You can actually waste quite a bit of time and energy “uniquely positioning” your business in ways that no one (but you) actually cares about. It feels like you’re getting somewhere because you’re busy, but really, nothing is happening.

    The Magic of The Platform

Look around at just about anyone with influence and you’ll most likely find, not too far away, a Platform of sorts that is powering that force.

Oprah had her TV show. Rush Limbaugh has the radio show. You can think of countless examples.

A Platform, very simply, is some sort of vehicle that distributes specific value to a specific group of people, consistently, over time. A Platform might be as simple as an email newsletter, or a podcast, or a print newsletter, or even a video series.

Now if the word “Platform” is new to you, don’t worry. I didn’t make up the concept. No one in this century (or the last few) did. It’s been around forever.

People who should listen to this show are entrepreneurs, career coaches

Hasan Salaam + Jay Z, Russell Simmons & Gov. Cuomo + NY rap on top

    in Music

New York City has been very much part of the public consciousness in recents days, and as hip hop is concerned, we're still the center of the music, culture and politics. This was evident this week as news broke that Jay Z and Russell Simmons both spoke with Governor Cuomo about "reforming the justice system."

Whether or not this was just shrewed PR positioning or not remains to be seen. We'll discuss the meetings and ask the question, "Are Jay Z or Russell Simmons capable representatives of hip hop? Can they make a difference?"

Of course, Jay and Russell weren't the only ones making noise in regards to the protests. Nas and J. Cole participated, and of course, the lesser known, but no less important hip hop-oriented organiztations, artists and 'heads' continue to be out in force.

Speaking of which, we'll hear from MC/activist and more, Hasan Salaam, fresh from his recent album release and amazing interview with our host Manny Faces, on his sister podcast, The Manny Faces Show. He'll give an update on his album, the memorial for affiliate J Arch, and Hasan's upcoming event, celebrating his more "erotic" side activities.

Speaking of J. Cole, along with DJ Premier/Royce the 5' 9" project and Ghostface Killah's new album, a lot of veteran NY artists are bringing great material to the table. While the new jacks including the highly anticipated release from Joey Bada$$ are due out soon, we have to sit back and say, "Damn, New York and NY-influenced hip hop is pretty damn strong right now..."

As we always said it would be.

All this, plus event reviews and previews, and YOUR CALLS.

Brought to you by SUPERFLY: My Untold Story of Hip-Hop. A perfect gift for the hip hop head!

    in Motivation

Notions of race are created to justify slavery because once you point out differences in people, it is easier to start judging and ranking them; positioning some races as more superior than others.  One way this has been demonstrated in America is during the time of Jim Crow Laws. By this time slavery had been abolished but this was a new type of slavery. These laws limited certain freedoms and separated and ranked citizens solely based on race. Some of these limited freedoms included separate eating areas, separate drinking fountains, and separate bathrooms. Jim Crow laws were eventually abolished but this slavery idea still exists today but more through socially constructed laws versus U.S. laws. Examples of this include the war on drugs and the multiple cases of cops treating people unfairly based on the color of their skin.
Several racial bribes representative of Jim Crow Laws that exist in America today include the mass imprisonment of more people of color than white people, the war on drugs, and discrimination. As Alexander points out in her book, The New Jim Crow, mass imprisonment started back during the Civil Rights Movement when people of color would do legal acts, such as protesting, they would be viewed and handled as criminal acts. The rise in crime rates was also linked not to any other social and economic factor but only to the African American unemployment rates and the Civil Rights Movement. This type of thinking was lead by the conservatives to secretly find ways to maintain white supremacy in America. This crime was also what sparked the war on drugs, which increased the surveillance and severity of punishment for possession or the selling of drugs. Drugs and crime in areas of poverty where there was a great African American population and by cracking down on drugs they could arrest and charge more people of color. Lastly, discrimination is still seen today in jobs, income, living situations, care, and education.

Indictments are stil an Option~w/ Attorney Activist, Michael Coard Esq.

    in Current Events

Join The Gist of Freedom as we discuss The Michael Brown and Eric Garner Grand Jury Verdicts. Police not Indicted, For The deaths of Unarmed Black Men, with Attorney Activist, Michael Coard Esq.!

    8pm ET~ www.BlackHistoryBlog.com

    "I can't breathe"

Weeks before the shooting death of Michael Brown this August in Ferguson, Missouri, the death of Eric Garner set off its own wave of protests. The father of six died in July while being suspected of selling illegal cigarettes in Staten Island, after a police chokehold rendered him unable to breathe.

The cop, Pantaleo, who held Eric Garner in the chokehold that killed him has been sued three times for allegedly violating the constitutional rights of other blacks he and fellow cops arrested.

Unlike Mike Brown's death, Garner's death has harrowing digital footprints. His attempted arrest and struggle for air were captured on a widely-disseminated video. His final words were “I can’t breathe.”

Besides the banned chokehold used by the cop,  throwing a beefy arm around his neck, there was lethal danger in the way Mr. Garner was subdued — on his stomach, with a pile of cops on his back.

“positional asphyxia” quoted the Department’s guidelines on preventing deaths in custody.

The New York medical examiner’s office ruled Mr. Garner’s death a homicide, it cited “compression of neck (choke hold), compression of chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.” The pressure prevents the diaphragm from going up and down, and he can’t inhale and exhale.”

Which is exactly what Mr. Garner was trying to tell the officers who were on top of him when he said "I can't breathe"

On Wednesday, a grand jury decided not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, the plainclothes NYPD officer who was making the arrest.
