Democrats and independents who had not voted in the Democrats' primary could vote in the Republicans'. They probably care more than Republicans like to admit that they themselves care about legislative pork, of which Cochran has served up heaping amounts during his 33 years on the Appropriations Committee. This bright red state has the nation's lowest per capita income, the highest federal funding as a percent of revenue, and a surplus of cognitive dissonance between its professed conservatism and its actual enjoyment of the benefits Cochran can now continue to shovel its way. This program features an in depth interview with independant film maker Graham Merriweather, who has produced "American Meat." This documentary is a fair look at how we in the United States get our meat. Released in 2012, "American Meat" has played to audiences across the nation, educating the public on where our meat comes from and that sustainable choices are not only available, they may be the key to solving many of the issues facing the nation today. In the second half, Stephanie looks at the recent Pork headlines, yes, real Pork (Porcine for you Latin enthusiasts), involving China's leading Pork processing company, Shangwei and it's bid to purchase Smithfield Foods, Americas leading pork growing and processing company. She delves into the current factors leading up to the sale, the nature of Smithfield's corporate practices, and how there are options for those of us who want to eat pork that is good for us, the pigs and the planet. A segment featuring Paul Willis from Niman Ranch Pork Producers rounds out the program. ENJOY! Make sure to follow on Facebook, Twitter and Blogger for resources and updates
