Deborah Emin is the publisher of Sullivan Street Press, and a writer of the Scags Series. She began the press to protect her own intellectual property and this initial motivation has grown into a full-blown commitment to publish the books that tell the stories this world needs to hear. In her other endeavors, besides writing and publishing, she is an avid traveler where she spreads the word about what the press is doing and how she finds new authors whose stories she would like to share with the world.

We read a lot about the destruction of plants - trees, grasses, crops, etal - around the world. Why is this and how do we learn to honor the plant nations again? Native Americans speak of all things in nature as being a ‘people’ - a nation. This is a matter of respect and allows for understanding how important each natural element is to the survival of all.
There are many stories about trees and plants around the world shared by indigenous people. They show the value people living close to the Earth place on plants. And many statements of the power of plants, such as this one: "The trees are great teachers. The trees are great listeners. That is why we should meditate in their presence. The Great Spirit is in every rock, every animal, every human being and in every tree. The Great Spirit has been in some trees for hundreds of years. Therefore, the trees have witnessed and heard much. The trees are the Elders of the Elders. Their spirits are strong and very healing." ~ Mary Hayes, Clayoqout
Come join as we share some stories from the old ones and some ways plants give us healing medicine. And we will explore together some steps we need to take as one to again honor our plant relatives.

Join us for this exciting episode with Plant Medicine Practitioner, Medicine Maker, and Wildcrafter, Scott Kloos. Learn about his walk in Folk Medicine and the work he's been doing in Portland and beyond!
Scott Kloos has been working with the native plants of the Pacific NW since the late 90’s. In addition to many years of self-study, he completed the 1999 Herbal Apprenticeship Program at the Herb Pharm in Williams, OR, and in 2000, he attended a nine-month Community Herbalist Training Program with Christopher Hobbs. In 2009, he studied Traditional Western Herbalism: An Intuitive and Energetic Approach with Matthew Wood in Portland, OR.
He spent seven years studying the human psyche (his own and others) in Paul Levy’s Awakening in the Dream group. Paul’s unique synthesis of the Dzogchen School of Tibetan Buddhism, Western Alchemy, Jungian Psychology, the Dreambody Psychology of Arnold Mindell, and shamanism deeply shaped his view of the world and his approach to healing and working with plants.
He is the owner of Cascadia Folk Medicine, which produces small batch herbal extracts from the native plants of the region. In his healing practice he works with the psycho-spiritual aspects of plant medicine and hosts monthly Plant Teacher Ceremonies. He is one of the founders and a faculty member of the Elderberry School of Botanical Medicine in Portland, OR and is finishing his first book tentatively titled, "Wild Medicinal Plants of the Pacific Northwest: 120 Healing Herbs from Alumroot to Yerba Santa".

Plant based Wellness consultat Theresa "Sam" Houghton talks about plant-based diets, specifically how to enjoy them and stay warm and satisfied eating plant foods during the winter.
Tonight I'm talking with Carole Guyett, author of Sacred Plant Initiations. Carole is a medical herbalist and medicine woman who has worked with healing plants for over 30 years. We avail ourselves of her vast knowledge tonight as we discuss plant diet/initiation ceremonies, how she's developed these ceremonies, what people experience during the ceremonies and if people notice lasting changes as a result of their experience. We'll see how this ties in with the Sacred Feminine, connecting humans with Nature and Celtic Fire Festivals.
