Sometimes women pick the wrong men when it comes to dating and marriage. As discussed last week it comes down to standards and some peoples’ standards are higher than others. But what are some reasons women pick the wrong men and how often do this happen?
A couple of reasons why women pick the wrong men and stay in the relationship include:
The more time they invest, the more vested in the relationship they become. When people don’t get the love and attention they want it seems natural to give more in hopes that the increased effort will be noticed and reciprocated.
We, as people, accept the love we think we deserve. Perhaps a person had an unstable male figure in your life as a child, or your first relationship was one that left you hurt and wounded. It is possible that they are choosing relationships that have the same qualities. In a sense, people seek comfort in that familiar scenario.
And it’s a mental and chemical thing. Dr. Larry Young, the director for Translational Social Neuroscience, notes that experiencing a loss from a partner – such as a separation or death, is akin to an addict craving drugs. If a person is separated from their partner, even if it wasn’t the right person, they may deal with separation anxiety or depression causing them to go back to the relationship.
There are reasons beyond these that are mentioned. Thirty percent of now-divorced women say they knew it was wrong from the start. So how often do women pick the wrong man? To give insight on that if you look at the divorce rate you can get an idea. Although not all divorces are caused by women picking the wrong men it gives us an idea of how many marriages just don’t work out.
