An Artist Speaks with Guest Artist Robin Botie

    in Art

Join host Michael Harris with guest artist Robin Botie as they discuss her inspiration and technique for her unique Photo shop images. Robin Botie’s life as she knew was catapulted out the window when cancer killed her daughter. Desperate to keep visible memories of her, and needing to reinvent herself, she discovered photography and writing as ways to heal. Robin believes anything’s possible – even finding joy after loss.  She creates pictures and writes about growing in the midst of grief and ever since Robin dove into Photoshop, she’s been losing herself and finding herself in her work.  “My pictures are mostly of living things and landscapes. They are all about regaining life and redefining it. Photoshop offers intriguing “Tools” to work with for those whose lives are in turmoil or struck by loss. There is a Patch Tool and a Path Selection Tool, a Dodge Tool and an Add-Anchor Tool, a Magic Eraser, a Magic Wand, a Clone Stamp, … and a Healing Brush. The possibilities for change and control are endless.  I always believed I could design my way into or out of anything; for me, to design is to fix, to redefine, and make beautiful.”

  • An Artist Speaks Season 4 Episode 23 with Guest Artist Shari Emme

    in Art

This weeks interview is with Fine Art Photographer Shari Emme with host Michael Harris.  Shari Emme has been involved in various aspects of the creative arts for many years outside of her full-time career in the legal field. More recently, she began pursuing a greater focus of her creative interests in photography and painting. Employing both Lightroom and Photoshop, she enjoys working with color saturation and vibrancy, as well as variations of light, to emphasize a sense of texture and bring added depth to the detail in her photographs. For her abstract paintings, she utilizes assorted structure techniques to produce dimension within the pieces. Shari has also written poetry for several years and finds that interweaving ideas from this art form with her photography and painting provides deeper inspiration in her artistry.

“I love to play with color and texture with my work. I want to draw the viewer's interest into seeing a subject from a different perspective through the incorporation of these aspects. I believe that creativity unites people, soothes our souls and provides us with inspiration to make the world a better place.”

The Renovation Report: Dave Wilber chats with Tommy Naccarato

    in Golf

TurfNet's Renovation Report is brought to you by Jacobsen and Golf Preservations. This episode's guest is golf architecture expert, golf historian and digital artist/Photoshop wunderkind, Tommy Naccarato.

Tommy's life changed forever after a visit to St. Andrews in the early 1990s.  Since that time, he has been an outspoken critic of the deficiencies in the design of many golf courses in the United States, in particular the works of noted architects such as the late Ted Robinson, Jr. and Tom Fazio while providing passionate support of the classic designs of Alister MacKenzie and George Thomas.

Tommy's passion for the game is unending. One of the leading voices on Internet golf discussion forums for years talks about how he turned his passion for art, architecture, golf and the digital world into his dream job. You'll hear Tommy's story as it led up to his work wth Gil Hanse on the Rio 2016 Golf Project.

Tommy also has a passion for golf course superintendents. Which comes out in every part of this interview.

One tidbit: "Superintendents are our stars, the real heroes of the business…  they lay themselves out on the line every day."

And another: "I truly believe in 'death to clueless green committee members'..."

    Photoshopped Faith

    in Christianity

Do we as Christians put filters on our faith? Condoning certain sins but not participating in others just because we want to remain saved? Are we all in or only in enough for it to be beneficial to us in our walk? ? How much can I get away with and still be saved? ? Where have we lost the passion to fully submit to Christ and end the days of breaking his heart!

What Makes A Person Attractive? Defining Beauty? How I Remain Self-Confident!

    in Radio

HAPPY TUESDAY! I was so exhausted last night, I didn't have the strength to do a live segment. Forgive me!

How do you define beauty in your world? What's attractive in a human being? With the world we live in, there's always that pressure of being so many things at once. How are you changing the beauty standards in society?

I thought this would be an interesting topic because like many individuals, I know what it's like to be pressured to be the "perfect image". Won't you join me today to talk about this topic?
