EVER SINCE WE BECAME AWARE OF THE DEPTH OF GOVERNMENT SNOOPING INTO OUR PRIVACY, THE QUESTION HAS BEEN ASKED: WHAT LIMITS SHOULD BE PLACED ON YOUR PRIVACY WHEN USING THE PHONE OR IPAD? FIRST THE GOVERNMENT SAID IT DIDN'T GATHER OUR DATA, THEN THEY RELENTED AND ADMITTED THAT THEY DID AND FINALLY IT REACHED A CRESCENDO WHERE ONE POLITICIAN DECIDED TO SPEAK OUT AND DO SOMETHING.
LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM, SENATOR RAND PAUL GRABBED THE BULL BY THE HORNS, TOOK THE ISSUE INTO FILIBUSTER MODE AND LIT A SPARK THAT STARTED RAGING. AND DESPITE THE URGING AND PUSH BACK FROM HIS MAJORITY LEADER, MITCH MCCONNELL, HE WOULDN'T RELENT AND ULTIMATELY THE SENATE HAD TO BACK DOWN AND ACCEPT THE HOUSE LEGISLATION WHICH PUT A HALT TO INDISCRIMINATE DATA MINING OF YOUR PHONES. OH, THE PHONE COMPANIES WILL STILL HOLD THE DATA, BUT FOR GOVERNMENT SLEUTHS TO ACCESS THAT DATA, THEY MUST GET A WARRANT AND, HERE'S THE BEST PART, THE COURT HAS TO MAINTAIN RECORDS OF THE REASONING.
I BRING THIS UP AS A FACTOR OF LIFE SINCE TODAY WE SPEND EXTENSIVE TIME ON THE PHONE TALKING WITH FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AND WE DON'T EXPECT OUR GOVERNMENT TO ABUSE THEIR DUTIES BECAUSE SOME BUREAUCRAT OR POLITICIAN THINKS IT IS A GOOD IDEA. FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND A RIGHT TO PRIVACY BY LAW ABIDING CITIZENS SHOULD NEVER BE AT RISK; THE GOVERNMENT CAN EASILY GET THE APPROVAL FOR ACTION WHERE PROBABLY CAUSE IS AVAILABLE.
