When we are active in an addiction, we can feel like there is no one else in the whole world like us. “Alcoholics are screw ups and losers,” we tell ourselves, “whereas I seemed to have developed this drinking problem in spite of doing everything else in my life to a high level of excellence. I am the most unlikely alcoholic ever.” In fact, alcoholics share many common personality traits, and surprisingly that includes perfectionism. On this episode we discuss the various ways perfectionism can manifest in our lives, why it is so common to those who struggle with addiction, and some suggestions for easing perfectionist ways.
Are you a perfectionist in any area of your life? Do you always want to get things right, good, perfect or correct before you put them out into the world? Do you ever not speak up in case you get things wrong?
Join me and Donnielle Carter as we discuss, how perfectionism could be one of the main things stopping you from creating!
Listen to Maryann Ehman's Story. Maryann was a highly skilled and educated professional, prosecuting attorney, and ministry leader, Maryann struggled with oppressive perfectionism, shame, and worry formed early on by childhood abuse, discrimination, and abandonment. External cultural expectations on women in the workforce and the church, caused further damage to her sense of worth and value.
However, in His faithfulness, God reshaped her mindset and broke through its limitations when He put the study of His favor in front of her day after day for over a year and a half. Today Maryann leads and coaches those who believe that God has called them to more, but don’t necessarily have the clarity they need, strong sense of their value and identity, or the strategies and systems they need to implement their calling. Suffering burnout 3 time herself, she is an expert in guiding Caregivers in ways to avoid it.

The prototypical perfectionist is someone who will go to great (and often unhealthy) lengths to avoid being average or mediocre, and who takes on a "no pain, no gain" mentality in their pursuit of greatness. Although perfectionists aren't necessarily high achievers, perfectionism is frequently tied to workaholism
WHEN YOU'RE PUSHED BY DEMONS YOU ARE DEMONIC!
Demonic means indwelled with a spirit or mental disposition that

We've all been challenged with self-doubt at some point in our lives. The problem is when "doing our best" becomes perfectionism, and humility turns into self-abuse. Perfectionism strips us of our power. Sumaya O'Grady helps us to stop the “I’m not enough” talk in our head and move into a place of freedom and radiance. Sumaya is the creator and teacher of a monthly program called Breaking Through Perfectionism. She is an expert at supporting women as they learn to stop self-sabotage, connect with their inner guidance, discover their internal well of confidence, and follow their dreams. visit Sumaya online at heartandbodyhealing.com
Perfectionist are idealistic in that they frequently think about how things "should" be, not how they really are. Perfectionism causes one to set impossibly high goal which leads to discouragement, failure, and ultimately quitting. This thinking and belief of being product-minded believing contentment, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment are not permissible until their current project or activity has been completed.
Do you feel you have to be the best at what you do. Do you equate your worth with your performance?
Listen as we discuss what can be done to help perfectionism.
Sean's wife, Stacey, joins him to talk about how to overcome perfectionism and accept ourselves as God accepts us. Sean talks about a recent post he wrote after reading a piece on "Impostor Syndrome."
