Perfectionism: A Flawless Performance Part II

    in Spirituality

Psychology Today makes an interesting statement, "For perfectionists, life is an endless report card on accomplishments or looks.  It is a fast track to unhappiness... What makes perfectionism so toxic is that while those in its grip desire success, they are most focused on avoiding failure..."

On our last show we began to discover the signs, symptoms, strengths and weaknesses of perfectionism.  We discussed the importance of examining the positive and negative aspects of perfectionism, identifying the areas of weakness, and bringing our challenges to God in order to better move towards living a life free from the strains of performance.

On this show we will pick up right where we left off to continue our journey to a happier, healthy, and balanced life in Christ.

Perfectionism: A Flawless Performance Part I

    in Spirituality

Have you ever heard of the phrase, "Behavioral continuum?"  Don't worry, most people have not.  A continuum is where there are distinct extremes on opposite sides of a spectrum.  In behavioral continuum can be viewed as a behavior that swings drastically either way past a neutral state. Perfectionism is best understood by describing it as a behavioral continuum where the behavior on either end of the continuum (spectrum) is excessive. Most people picture perfectionism as a good thing.  They see ambitious goals being met, promptness, attention to detail and high expectations achieved.  Yet if we were to peer at the motivation behind the behaviors it might tell a darker story, a story that may need to be addressed.

Listen to the show as we look at the strengths and weaknesses of perfectionism towards a more balanced and happy life!

Shame, Perfectionism, Worry, Discrimination, Abandonment, Damaged Self-Worth

    in Caregiving

Listen to Maryann Ehman's Story. Maryann was a highly skilled and educated professional, prosecuting attorney, and ministry leader, Maryann struggled with oppressive perfectionism, shame, and worry formed early on by childhood abuse, discrimination, and abandonment. External cultural expectations on women in the workforce and the church, caused further damage to her sense of worth and value.

However, in His faithfulness, God reshaped her mindset and broke through its limitations when He put the study of His favor in front of her day after day for over a year and a half. Today Maryann leads and coaches those who believe that God has called them to more, but don’t necessarily have the clarity they need, strong sense of their value and identity, or the strategies and systems they need to implement their calling. Suffering burnout 3 time herself, she is an expert in guiding Caregivers in ways to avoid it.

Join Dave Nassaney, at Dave, The Caregiver's Caregiver Radio Program Today at 3:30pm PST. (24/7 afterwards).  We have a different guest every Saturday at 3:30 pm PST. They just might pick up a tip or two that could make all the difference in the world between surviving, or going over the edge and getting closer to burning out.

GUIDED BY ANGELS PUSHED BY DEMONS PART SIX = PERFECTIONISM

    in Religion

The prototypical perfectionist is someone who will go to great (and often unhealthy) lengths to avoid being average or mediocre, and who takes on a "no pain, no gain" mentality in their pursuit of greatness. Although perfectionists aren't necessarily high achievers, perfectionism is frequently tied to workaholism

WHEN YOU'RE PUSHED BY DEMONS YOU ARE DEMONIC!

Demonic means indwelled with a spirit or mental disposition that
gives you a higher IQ or intellectual capacity. What makes you demonic is REPETITION; DISSATISFACTION AND PERFECTIONISM.

This conversation is definitely one to tune into! Here are some of the questions we will examine with Ann:
What was your thinking behind the idea of overcoming perfectionism? How is perfectionism a compulsion or addiction? How can a women solo entrepreneur recognize when perfectionism is at play?
