    The Fears of Counseling

    in Self Help

Many people need and want counseling, but not without a handful of fears.  Counseling can be a scary thing. It’s a huge step for people to step into a unfamiliar territory. Know this -- real people go to counseling.

At some point in life one could say - I’m all messed up - in a sense. Many times the people who really have problems are the ones who don’t think they have any problems – and that’s a problem.

Putting an end to the needless delay of counseling is key. So let’s address the pros and cons to counseling and how to get started.

Corrections Counseling - Overview and Interview with an Ex-Offender

    in Training

Brought to you by The American Public Safety Training Institute (TAPSTI) www.tapsti.org, this 2 hour session reviews correctional counseling and rehabilitation within the prison system. Correctional counseling is intended to transform a convicted felon, to rehabilitate them, into a responsible and productive member of our society. Those within correctional counseling understand the focus on the profession is on changing individual behavior and this often requires a complex mix of counseling, vocational training, social coaching, and academic enhancement. This session includes the findings of a nationwide survey on state correctional counseling and treatment. Using Albert Robert's work entitled "Correctional Counseling and Treatment" we will take a look at how the staffing patterns across the country, the medical, the mental health, the academic and the vocational training needs of offenders are being handled over twenty different state departments of corrections (DOCs).  "John" joins us as an ex-offender who explains how he got into the prison system, what he did, what counseling did for him, and what his life has been like since his release after 6 1/2 years.

Corrections Counseling - Assessment and Treatment of Juvenile Offenders

    in Training

Brought to you by The American Public Safety Training Institute (TAPSTI) www.tapsti.org, this 2 hour session will review juvenile correctional counseling and rehabilitation within the prison system. From 1991 through to 2003, the number of juveniles housed in residential programs increased by 27 percent such that there were 96,000 juveniles across the country who were housed in residential programs (Snyder & Sickmund, 2006). Many of these had mental health issues including major depression, anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. The juvenile justice system in this country is faced with the same challenges as our adult correctional system in serving youth who may have one or more mental health disorders.  Using Albert Robert's work entitled "Correctional Counseling and Treatment" we will take a look at the assessment, classification, and treatment of juvenile offenders, risks of reoffending, and family inteventions.

    "How Do I Start?" #568

    in Spirituality

Have you experienced the thought, "How Did I Go Wrong?"  The idea in this question is the realization that everyting is not as I planned or thought or dreamt it would be, and, I don't like where I am.  Along with this is the inherent understanding that "Something needs to change!"

If you've been there, then you've probably attempted to work through the following question as well:  "Where do I start?"  or, "How Do I Start?"   There are lots of voices out there that are willing to guide you also; perhaps you've tried some of them.  I have.  How have they worked for you?

Today's message continues the general discussion of "Closing The Integrity Gap" that exists between where I am and where I want to be.  the steps I offer in this message are quite simple.  The difficulty will be in your willingness to dump most of your current belief system and be willing to receive someting that will be new to some of you.

Resistance to moving forward is a common caracteristic in a lot of people; it results in discomfort, even pain.  It comes from living within the confines and controls of established belief systems that may or may not have worked very well, and yet, we are reluctant to change probably because we don't hurt enough and/or we are concerned about what a new belief system would mean or were it would lead.

My invitation to you today is to join me as we look at "Closing The Integrity Gap" by discovering "How Do I Start?"

CUTV News welcomes Dr. Gloria Payne of the Meridian Counseling Center

    in Health

Dade City, FL – Traditional therapy is the standard but it doesn’t work for everyone. It’s a therapist’s responsibility to expand their horizons, further their education and learn the most effective ways to benefit their clients.

Dr. Gloria Payne is a certified Rapid Resolution Therapist, BodyTalk practitioner, and the founder of the Meridian Counseling Center, where she offers both traditional cognitive behavioral therapy as well as innovative, state of the art holistic methods of healing.

“I look at the whole picture so I want to make sure I have the right tools and I have a lot of tools in my toolbox,” says Dr. Payne. “There is more available to people than just western medicine and medication.”

Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) can help bring about desired change. Long-standing habits can be changed and so can your emotional responses. It is an excellent method of eliminating the negative effect that past events continue to have on emotions, behavior and even health.

BodyTalk is a relatively new and powerful truly holistic and natural method of physical and emotional healing that utilizes state of the art energy medicine to optimize the body’s internal communications. As a certified Body Talk practitioner, Dr. Payne relies on the body’s inherent knowledge of itself to locate the energy circuits that need repair.

“I was working with someone recently who had experienced deep trauma,” recalls Dr. Payne. “After our first BodyTalk session she said, ‘For the first time in my life I smiled on the inside.' There’s nothing better than to see somebody who has been suffering become free of whatever has been constraining their life.”
