From The Desk Of Kiler Davenport Presents: The Happy Agnostic

    in Atheism

Who is God? Where is God? What is God? Why is God? These questions have been asked for thousands and thousands of years with no immediate answers coming to mind. Except those manufactured in the mind of man, woman and child. We have created the gods in our own images. We are terrified of Dante's Inferno. It is child abuse to teach these children of Hell, fire and brimstone. We live in the deep bowels of the matrix. We exist in a well formed vaccuum. We continue to search for questions to answers. Join us tonight as we probe the depths of doubt and climb the mountains of mystery and intrigue.

Paper 195.4. The European Dark Ages

195:4.1.The church, being an adjunct to society and the ally of politics, was doomed to share in the intellectual and spiritual decline of the so-called European "dark ages." During this time, religion became more and more monasticized, asceticized, and legalized. In a spiritual sense, Christianity was hibernating. Throughout this period there existed, alongside this slumbering and secularized religion, a continuous stream of mysticism, a fantastic spiritual experience bordering on unreality and philosophically akin to pantheism.

195:4.2.During these dark and despairing centuries, religion became virtually secondhanded again. The individual was almost lost before the overshadowing authority, tradition, and dictation of the church. A new spiritual menace arose in the creation of a galaxy of "saints" who were assumed to have special influence at the divine courts, and who, therefore, if effectively appealed to, would be able to intercede in man's behalf before the Gods.

    Is Reality Secular?

    in Religion

Join me this Saturday, 5/10/2014, as I interview Mary Poplin discussing her book "Is Reality Secular?"

"Dr. Mary Poplin is professor of education at Claremont Graduate University where she teaches courses on learning and pedagogical theories, philosophy and education, and qualitative research. She is a frequent speaker in academic and religious forums.  She has been both founder and director of the current Master’s teacher education program and dean.  Her most recent research is a five-year study of high-performing teachers in low-performing urban schools in some of the poorest neighborhoods in LA. Her book, Finding Calcutta, is about her experience volunteering with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity. Her more recent book, Is Reality Secular, is a reflection and analysis of four global worldviews, their principles, their similarities and differences with the Christian worldview and their consequences on lives, nations and cultures."

In the book, Poplin looks at four different worldviews and asks how each of them explains reality looking at the fundamental question of why we should think reality is secular. This will also include looking at how she came to the worldview that she has while working at Claremont.

    in Spirituality

God is often conceived as the Supreme Being and principal object of faith. In theism, God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. In deism, God is the creator (but not the sustainer) of the universe. In pantheism, God is the universe itself. The concept of God as described by theologians commonly includes the attributes of omniscience (infinite knowledge), omnipotence (unlimited power), omnipresence (present everywhere), omnibenevolence (perfect goodness), divine simplicity, and eternal and necessary existence. Monotheism is the belief in the existence of one God or in the oneness of God. God has also been conceived as being incorporeal (immaterial), a personal being, the source of all moral obligation, and the "greatest conceivable existent".

There are many names for God, and different names are attached to different cultural ideas about who God is and what attributes possessed. In the ancient Egyptian era of Atenism, possibly the earliest recorded monotheistic religion premised on there being one "true" Supreme Being and Creator of the Universe, this deity is called Aten. In the Hebrew Bible "He Who Is," "I Am that I Am", and the "Tetragrammaton" YHVH are used as names of God, while Yahweh, and Jehovah are sometimes used in Christianity as vocalizations of YHVH. In Arabic and other Semitic language, the name Allah, "Al-El," or "Al-Elah" ("the God") is used. Muslims regard a multitude of titular names for God, while in Judaism it is common to refer to God by the titular names Elohim or Adonai, the latter of which is believed by some scholars to descend from the Egyptian Aten. In Hinduism, Brahman is often considered a monistic deity. Other religions have names for God, for instance, Baha in the Bahá'í Faith,[Waheguru in Sikhism, and Ahura Mazda in Zoroastrianism.

Today we are faced with the challenge of filtering through literally hundreds if not thousands of new faiths and teachings about the spiritual life and how to have it. How can we identify what is real from what is counterfeit in the world of beliefs and religions, doctrine and dogma? What is the result of following false teachings ? What is the significance / who is Jezebel in the world we live in today and how it can impact our children and childrens children ?

They are boldly teaching this blasphemous error to unsuspecting churchgoing people to seize them for the One World Religious System that is being formed for the Antichrist.
These ungodly false Christian leaders are using the power of mass Hypnotism, Neurology, and psychometrics to bewitch Christian Churches.
In the beginning scientific men only followed up these “discoveries” as branches of Natural Science. They were making no attempt to connect spirit agencies with the phenomena, teaching and doctrine being carefully withheld by the spirits. The spiritual connection came when parapsychologists began researching psychic phenomena.  J. B. Rhine and his wife are considered the originators in America).

PMP: Engaging the Spirit World with Lupa - Animism for today

    in Spirituality

We strayed from the topic of the show, but spent nearly three hours talking with Lupa about her projects, her books, her personal spiritual beliefs. We hope that you, the listener, enjoy the conversation as much as we did. As Lupa put it "a three hour interview-turned conversational artwork".

Lupa is back to talk about her newest book, Engaging the Spirit World, and the concept of animism.

About Engaging the Spirit World (taken from http://www.thegreenwolf.com):

Animism--the belief in spirits--is considered to be an integral part of many pagans' paths. We call on these beings when we create our rituals, when we work magic, and even in our everyday lives. For some, though, spirits are the very center of their practices. This book collects writings from a variety of practitioners, exploring animism in nature, in technology, and even within the human psyche. Speaking from both theory and practice, the authors present personal experiences to demonstrate concepts, and provide ideas and tools for the reader to work with. Featuring essays from Dawn M. Allenbach, Kali Black, Veronica Cummer, Kenn Day, jaymi elford, Taylor Ellwood, S. Kelley Harrell, Raven Kaldera, Erynn Rowan Laurie, Rhiannon Louve, Lupa, Bari Mandelbaum, Paleo, Pia Van Ravestein, Andrieh Vitimus and Mel White.

Talking About the Elephant is an attempt to shatter that stillness and to promote constructive communication about the issues surrounding cultural appropriation in neopaganism.
