MysticMoonCafe-Guest Sheldon Snow-Indie Music & MusicBy Katy Guillen & The Girls

    in Indie Music

We're going all "Indie Music" tonight on MysticMoonCafe with Special Guest Sheldon Snow, and a variety of music provided by several different artists.

With great music and hot interviews Sheldon Snow’s 'Snow Jams' has a hip stylish approach, bringing out the best Indie Artists that are in the vanguard of the new generation.  We'll discuss his history in the radio/music scenes and what he has going on today and more......

We will have music from Katy Guillen & The Girls - from their not yet released, self-titled CD making it's official debut at Knucklehead's in KC this coming Saturday, Sept, 6th.

Katy Guillen and The Girls, out of Kansas City, MO, formed in September of 2012. The blues influenced roots rock trio is made up of Katy Guillen (guitar, vocals), Claire Adams (bass, vocals), and Stephanie Williams (drums). The group’s sound is characterized by Guillen’s searing, lively guitar licks; Williams’ heavy, driving drums; and Adams’ rock solid bass lines. Guillen’s soulful vocals backed by Adams’ intense harmonies add a fierce punch to Guillen’s songwriting. They’ve been known to pack a blues and BB-Q roadhouse, just as easily as they will fill up a multi bill rock/alternative venue.

We'll have music from other artists as well, including Kaz Hawkins, Ms Miche Braden, the Voodoo Fix and more!

So kick back and have a listen and feel free to join us in chat too. You can call in too if that works better for you to listen to the show - 646-716-6207.

    in Politics

This week features executive director for Community to Community Development, or Comunidad a Comunidad (C2C), Rosalinda Guillen, to talk about her work promoting food sovereignty in communities seeking to produce their own food, on their own land, and the struggle against corporate agribusiness controlling our food systems.

Rosalinda Guillen is a widely recognized farm worker and rural justice leader. The oldest of eight, she was born in Texas and spent her first decade in Coahuila Mexico. Her family emigrated to LaConner, Washington in 1960 and she began working as a farm worker in the fields in Skagit County at the age of ten. As executive director for Community to Community, Rosalinda works to build a broader base of support for rural communities and sustainable agriculture policies that ensure equity and healthy communities for farm workers. Last month, C2C was the co-recipient to the 2014 Food Sovereignty Award for their support and work with immigrant farm workers in Bellingham, Washington.

    in Education

Radio provided another possible programming model.  As we mentioned before many early TV shows were in fact based on radio programs, some of which were even simulcast for years on both media.  Back when radio was king, the jump from sound to sight was pretty common both in America and the UK.

Join Young Media Critics Host, Juanita Richburg Seon and her young associate, Erika Shoemaker as they talk about the early radio shows that "jumped from radio to television - from "sound to sight"

Tuesday, 5 p.m EST, October 7, 2014!  and learn more about show like,  The Jack Benny Show, Ozzie & Harriet, Dragnet and others.

NFL ONLY SUSPENDS Ray Rice after he admits beating his finance UNTIL...

    in Entertainment

The NFL Players Association received the official letter from the league confirming Ray Rice's indefinite suspension, according to ESPN.

This letter outlines the league's rationale for its decision to change Rice's original two-game suspension to the current one in the wake of the video release by TMZ on Monday showing Rice striking his then-fiancee Janay Palmer and knocking her unconscious in the elevator of the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.

The league's official explanation to the Players Association about Rice's indefinite suspension offers another important detail in trying to determine how much the NFL and the Ravens knew about what happened in February and how the full video of the assault figured into their decision.
