Living the Life with Deja Vu

    in Music

“You never know what you can do until you try”, a mantra repeated and believed by Déjà Vu. This midday hostess for Power 1051 in NY has be trying and achieving goals in radio for years. Starting out in Jacksonville, Florida at WXQL as in intern, she segued to competitor WHJX, holding down many shifts including overnights, and afternoon drive. Deja soon took her show on the road to Birmingham, AL at WBHJ as music director and afternoon host. This step out of her comfort zone allowed Déjà Vu the chance to grow in the music industry as well as in the community. While in Birmingham, Déjà Vu was appointed Assistant Program Director, and launched her own teen community group called “ The Flava Unit”. It was in Birmingham that she developed a strong passion for helping today’s youth. Balancing community issues and on-air responsibilities proved to be a challenge, but maintaining spiritual balance has always been Deja’s key to success. In 1999, she headed to the Midwest to launch KATZ-FM as Assistant Program Director and afternoon host. After two years of career success in St. Louis, Deja made the move to Program Director at WBTJ in Richmond, Virginia. Soon after, in 2002, power moves were made and Déjà Vu took a leap and landed in the big apple as midday host for WWPR- Power 105.1. Déjà Vu’s non-radio activities continue to include service projects with The Flava Unit Teen Community Group and she is also a much sought after motivational speaker. Currently, Deja is busy pursuing ventures as a life coach and developing a website for women’s empowerment called SistaGirlz.com.
