NBA Draft Lottery Needs Reboot, Blackhawks & Ducks 3OT Thriller, Game 3 Preview

    in Sports

On Tuesday night, The Minnesota Timberwolves won the NBA Draft Lottery and the #1 pick in the 2015 draft.  The New York Knicks, with the second-best odds for the #1 pick, fell two spots to #4.  The Philadelphia 76ers will pick third, the Los Angeles Lakers second.  Is it time to do away with the current lottery system that encourages weak teams to "tank" for higher picks?  There are some alternatives worth serious consideration.  The Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks played an instant classic Game 2 of their Western Conference Finals series with the Hawks getting the win in triple overtime.  After such an immense effort from both teams, how will each respond in Game 3?  I've got the keys to the game.  All this plus your phone calls at (347) 327-9183!

Bulls Season Ends With Thud, So What's Next? Blackhawks vs Ducks Game 2 Preview

    in Sports

The Chicago Bulls finished their season with a disappointing loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 6.  The Bulls faced similar offensive struggles, going long periods without managing to put the ball in the net.  Their offensive collapse is just one of many questions circling this team as they enter the offseason.  Has Tom Thibodeau coached his last game? Who will be his replacement?  And which pieces of this roster will return next season? The Chicago Blackhawks, meanwhile, will try to get the split of the first two games in Anaheim against the Ducks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals tonight.  The Hawks came out strong in Game 1 but failed to score, and found themselves chasing the Ducks from behind the entire game.  Power plays and deep defensive rotations continued to be a problem in Game 1, can the Hawks turn up the offense and survive the heavy-hitting Ducks to come back to Chicago with the series tied 1-1? All this plus your phone calls at (347) 327-9183!

    SATURDAY HIGH NOON

    in Politics

What's the matter with Kansas? "The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy recently reported that Kansas has the ninth-most unfair tax system in the county.  A Kansan earning $47,700 a year pays 9.5 percent of income in state and local taxes; but someone earning $1,191,700 pays an effective rate of just 3.6 percent."

So much for the 'trickle down' libertarian economic theories masterminded by the Wichita plutocrats Charles & David Koch; and implemented by Gov. Sam Brownback and his cronies in the state legislature.

Here is a very informative article by Larry Weigel recently featured at the Women for Kansas web site "Bleeding Kansas – Revenue shortfall will require grassroots leadership to deal with crisis".  Mr. Weigel has appeared multiple times on Radio Free Kansas and in this article describes who, how and why Kansas has entered this dangerous phase of reactionary policies, self-imposed austerity and regressive taxation.

Naomi Fowler's latest world wide informative "Tax Cast" from the Tax Justice Network (30 min. ca.) SUMMARY: Do our politicians believe in the societies they serve or not? The Taxcast looks at making the tax returns of our elected representatives public and the inspirational achievement of journalist Umar Cheema of  the Centre for Investigative Reporting in making Pakistan only the fourth country in the world to publish the tax returns of its Parliamentarians. Also: how the British general election demonstrates political capture by finance interests; libertarian paradise – the world's newest tax haven; and is Singapore trying to shut down reporting on its tax haven status?

    2015 Colorado State football preview

    in Sports

We continue our series of previewing the upcomign Mountain West season, and the latest team is the Colorado State Rams. The Rams are coming off of one of their best seasons in years by winning 10 games but that came with a cost of losing head coach Jim McElwain to Florida.

However, the Rams made a nice hire of bringing in former Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to be the new Colorado State head coach.

The Rams did lose some key talent in quarterback Garrett Grayson and offensive lineman Ty Sambrilo to the NFL Draft and then running back Dee Hart he declared early but did not get drafted, so there will be new faces on Colorado State's offense.
